Hi,
has anyone been here for a gig or anything?
my 17yr old daughter and friend want to go to see something there.

We aren’t local (2hr train ) and they haven’t been to London on their own yet.

Just wondering what the area is like in the evening, they will need to get to Liverpool st so will walk to Camden tube station.

cheers!

Oh god my youth is coming flooding back, I thought it closed down or rebranded.

It’s fine, just leave in time to get the train

CornflakeGirlsClub · 03/10/2025 21:08

Chalk Farm tube ;also on the northern line) is closer than Camden Town. Less dodgy types about that end of the high street. It’ll be fine, anyway. It’s a busy area at weekends/nights. Plenty of youth out and about.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 03/10/2025 21:09

@boulevardofbrokendreamss it looks pretty modern from the pictures!
Maybe it’s had a re-vamp 😆 I mean I have no idea how long ago you went there, don’t want to offend!

@CornflakeGirlsClub thanks for the tip
Never heard of Chalk Farm before!

It’s much safer now than when I was a teen (and it was safe then!)! It will be full of people at that time of night, loads of tourists, and they will have a blast!

Firstsuggestions · 03/10/2025 21:14

Yeh Chalk farm is a stones throw from it and they can change at Tottenham Court for the central line. There can be some dodgy people in that area but if they are coming out with everyone in the crowd it should be fine.

MrsJamin · 03/10/2025 21:16

They'll have so much fun, lots of people around so stick to the main routes between the nearby tube station and the venue and they'll be fine. It's a fabulous venue.

thrive25 · 03/10/2025 21:17

It’s a perfectly safe area nowadays, and there will plenty of people around because of the gig

there are a variety of pubs/affordable restaurants on the same street as the venue

Fayaway · 03/10/2025 21:20

It's a really good venue - not too crowded and good sound. I was there a couple of months ago. It was closed for many years from 1980s. Like PP said, head for Chalk Farm and get Northern Line to Moorgate which is just across from Liverpool Street. Get the TfL Go app, it'll be useful.

Puppylucky · 03/10/2025 21:22

Aah my youth! My most beloved flat ever overlooked the Roundhouse. It's an amazing space for gigs and very well connected as it's just down the road from Chalk Farm tube station. Bear in mind though that that bit of the Northern line is two branches so she may need to change at Camden town depending if she wants the Euston branch or the Kings Cross branch of the line

Onearmedscissor · 03/10/2025 21:22

Its a nice venue, lots of ladies loos which is great!

As others said, it's a busy area, they'll be fine.

Pedallleur · 03/10/2025 21:27

Used to be the place for up and comers when I was growing up. Glad it's got a revamp

AwakeNotThruChoice · 03/10/2025 21:44

Ahhh thanks you guys :)

I will be down In London before then so will do a walk by.
Sounds like they will have a fab time

I’m going to go against the grain here but no, it’s not totally safe. I grew up in Camden, lived there for over 30 years. Worked virtually opposite the Roundhouse for 15 of those years and still work in the area once or twice a month. There is a huge level of drug use and a mixed bag of people. Generally, Camden is fun for a night out for young people. But they do need to be streetwise and careful. Echoing what someone else said, Chalk Farm Tube is a bit less hectic and much closer to the Roundhouse. I’m not saying they shouldn’t go - but in my opinion the area is not without its risks and does need an element of awareness and keeping alert to avoid potential dangers. So depends on how mature and responsible they are I think.

BlouseyBrowne · 03/10/2025 21:48

We’ve been to a few gigs there and stayed in the area. It feels very safe to me as it’s a busy place, and I’m quite paranoid.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 03/10/2025 21:59

@LemonViewer They will definitely get it drilled into them about keeping wits about etc. and I know no where is ‘totally safe’
I have to let them do some things but at the same time I like to do my research (hence this post)
It’s hard being a parent of teens!!

It’s all relative,
As a Londoner it’s perfectly normal - just be sensible in not waving your phone about in the street etc.

Personally I find London safer as there are lots of ordinary people walking, taking the tube, taking buses etc. People aren’t squirreled away in their cars.

At 7.30pm lots of commuters will be making their way home from work. When the gig finishes there will be lots of people walking from the Roundhouse back to the tube. It won’t be empty suburban streets.

Contrary to the Telegraph/Mail headlines London isn’t like Mad Max.

N4ish · 03/10/2025 22:05

They will be absolutely fine, tube station is super close to the venue and the streets around will be busy. I’m jealous, wish I was 17 again and going for a night out in Camden.

MajesticWhine · 03/10/2025 22:08

I live near here. It’s a nice venue and there should be no problem. The best route is northern line from Moorgate to Chalk Farm (Liverpool Street is right next to Moorgate)

AsCoolAsKimDeal · 03/10/2025 22:15

its absolutely fine

AwakeNotThruChoice · 03/10/2025 22:16

@Decisionsdecisions1 thanks :)
I do travel to London a bit, but don’t know this area at all. And the girls haven’t been down on the train alone yet.

@N4ish Oh yeah I’ll want to hear all about it ☺️

There will be a million people around and the tube station is steps away. Provided they don't wave their phones around, they'll be completely fine. Getting them to familiarise themselves with the route back to Liverpool St wouldn't be a bad idea.

ToTheStarsToTheSea · 03/10/2025 22:33

I go to a lot of gigs and the Roundhouse is of my favourite venues.

From Liverpool Street they can get the Northern Line to Chalk Farm.

Echobelly · 03/10/2025 22:35

Lifelong north Londoner here. Like anywhere, use common sense - don't whip your phone out as you come out of the tube, look purposeful, but I'd say it's pretty safe

TiredofTheirCrap · 06/10/2025 20:18

Definitely use Chalk Farm Station instead of Camden Town. Tell them not to use their phones at all when they're on the roads. Phone snatching has increased so much sadly. But otherwise, they'll be okay. There are a lot of pubs and restaurants open along the road if they feel unsafe and need to get help. Chalk Farm Road tends to be a bit tamer than Camden High street. There will be lots of people out and about. The road is very festive when there's a concert on. Hope they have fun!
