Toothbrushes a Bit Boring

Hi all, apologies for the boring thread, although it might be useful to others. Every few years I buy us all top of the range electric toothbrushes, during an Amazon sale. I tend to buy in packs of 2 due to family size, but that is not important.

For roughly the last 30 years I have always bought Oral B. Is that still the best brand out there? I normally spend up to £200. I am not normally a big spender (my husband would argue), but think for something that you use twice a day, and looks after your teeth it is worth buying good quality.

Recommendations please. Thank you in advance.

Oral B IO are the best

They are nice but the replacement heads cost a fortune, £25 for 4

I have one and I don’t think they do a better job than the cheaper ones, it’s just a spinning brush at the end of the day. Better to spend your money on floss, interdental brushes and hygienist appointments

I use oral B but mine only cost about £20-30 in a sale. I think half price. The one I've got now has been going for about 8 years, with heavy use.

I've also got a cheap Tesco one I bought for when I was in hospital. It was about £15 and does the job just fine. But I haven't used it all that much so it might break quickly.

Warning about the Oral B IO range: the fancier ones seem to run out of battery really quickly which is very annoying. If I could choose again I’d go for the more basic end of the range as Dh has that and battery lasts much longer.

Ultrasound toothbrush called Emmi-Dent. They come from Germany. Absolutely amazing and you feel as though you've been to see the dental hygienist after each use. They're also great for gums as they don't cause friction.

The oral b io sonic brushes...omg...absolute game changer.

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone. It seems the Oral B one wins. I am hoping that Amazon will have a good special this week. Thanks for the article @BadActingParsley. I was guilty of moving the electric brush when I got my first one. I had not heard of the Emmi-Dent @smallglassbottlewill have a look. Thanks again everyone, really helpful.

Gosh now after reading The Guardian's recent article I have decided to go for the Oral B and the Spotlight. Will have a look at the Emmi Dent too. Myself and DH are both due new ones as we bought a twin pack years ago. Thanks again everyone.

@smallglassbottle do you need a special toothpaste for the Emmi-Dent? I have really sensitive teeth and really notice if I dont use the Colgate sensitive toothpaste. Thank you

No, you can just use anything. They do their own toothpaste, but it's not necessary. You get a free tube or two with the toothbrush, so I have used it, but there's no difference to the Colgate.
