Reaction to Covid and flu jabs, anyone else?

Had jabs yesterday. Woke up in the middle of the night, shaking and trembling uncontrollably all over. Couldn’t even steady my hands to use phone or walk to the loo without holding on to things. I was terrified tbh. Took some paracetamol, eventually got back to sleep and I’m fine this morning. I always have all the jabs offered to me including two together like this but never had such a reaction. NHS website mentions shivering but not shaking like this! Anyone else?

No reaction to Covid jabs other than occasionally a sore arm for a day or so (and I’ve had at least 5 now). One flu jab gave me such a sore arm that I had to take paracetamol and go to bed. But all the others have only given me a slightly sore arm.

I don’t think I’ve ever had both at the same time.

Swine flu gave me the most painful arm for several days. Apparnently the needle was bigger. Otherwise I've never reacted to a flu jab.

Covid jabs were horrendous. All three of them. So is it more likely that the covid jab made you feel so bad?

Lurkingandlearning · 03/10/2025 10:56

I felt really ill after my last Covid jab.

I've had this reaction every time, I now warn work on advance I'll be off the day after a jab. I'm on strong immunosuppression so I've been told it's a good sign that I'm mounting such a strong response and it's usually over in 24hrs.

However COVID was so much worse that I'm resigned to it.

Weightlo55 · 03/10/2025 10:59

Yes have had reactions. A friend shook so bad they cracked a rib. They ended up pretty unwell not sure if linked?
Good to hear you're ok now.

continuoussinging · 03/10/2025 11:19

I know a few people who choose to separate out the jabs, including my mum, as combined makes then feel v.poorly. I presume as you are eligible and having both together, you are in one of the vulnerable groups so it may affect you more than others? as someone else said, it can be just your immune system reacting (which can be too much for some people ).That said there's is an awful lot of illness circulating in my area at the moment and i think we've possible already had covid doing the rounds in aug/sept going by my DD's symptoms.

StElwicksNeighbourhoodAssociation · 03/10/2025 12:11

Sounds like how I was after my first Covid jab. The shaking was really alarming. I'm debating whether or not to get it done this year, I don't think I did last year.

TeaRoseTallulah · 03/10/2025 12:13

I was like that with Covid I was ill for weeks. It shows the vaccine is working of you have a reaction I think. Hope you feel better today .

RedRiverShore5 · 03/10/2025 12:18

I was shaking and shivering like that with my booster, Moderna, I was ok the next day though. It was proper shaking and quite scary.

ninjahamster · 03/10/2025 12:22

The flu jab makes me really unwell for several days so I don’t have it now.

CandidOP · 03/10/2025 12:23

I had both jobs together last year and was ill for a couple of days so back to having them spaced a few weeks apart this time. TBH it's usually the flu jab that I feel ill with, Covid has always been ok.

PurpleThistle7 · 03/10/2025 12:24

I can’t get both together so I split them. Otherwise I’m unwell for days after

JurassicPark4Eva · 03/10/2025 12:24

Both make me really unwell, so I've always refused to have them together. I have them separately but they both write me off for at least 36hrs.

Thissickbeat · 03/10/2025 12:25

I never get side effects from jabs, neither does 19yo. FWIW we are very healthy.
However my 17yo always gets ill, and has done since her jabs when she was little.

Only the typhoid jab ever made me ill.

I had this exact reaction to the covid jab . No reaction to my annual flu jab .

Your reaction to the vaccine is likely to be much less than to the actual virus, so I would say yes to getting it (but I must say, I'm not immuno depressed or in any vulnerable group). I know this doesn't mean anything, but had no reaction to Pfizer except for a sore arm. I had it 3 days after the flu vaccine
