My cat cries for fuss than sits just slightly out of reach? Why??

My cat is so weird. She comes over crying, brushing against me, standing on me, clearly wants fuss. I start stroking her and moves and sits just like 1mm out of my reach! I then give up cos cant reach and she immediately comes begging again...repeat forever...why is she doing this? Does anyone else's cat do this?

OMG my girl whippet does this. I always said she was part cat.

Theunamedcat · 01/10/2025 20:41

Mine also does this. The furry little twat.

WottaRacket · 01/10/2025 20:51

My cat does this when she wants me to follow her. Usually to her food bowl to top it up

May sound like a daft question but she's not calico or tortoiseshell is she?

I have one of each sisters - neither is lap cats but will sit on legs under covers in beds but never downstairs - there it's next to you but often not allowed to pet.

My Tortie is like this! She likes to snuggle under the duvet on my legs but if I touch her she runs away😁

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 01/10/2025 21:02

One of mine does this too.
Its because she's a cat and therefore total twat.

Hallywally · 01/10/2025 21:07

My cats do this. Food, to go out, play etc. she wants something but not your love! 😂

TomatoSandwiches · 01/10/2025 21:15

My girl Luna does this when she wants to play, if I get up and follow her she takes me to her toy cupboard, she's so smart.

ginasevern · 01/10/2025 21:16

My boy almost always does this. Comes to me for a cuddle and then sits just an inch out of reach and facing away from me.

Mine gets cross if I try to play with his feather wand toy in another room. He will grab it and drag me to the living room as he’s so particular about stuff

once I emptied all his toys on the floor and he just looked horrified Blush

Allthesnowallthetime · 01/10/2025 22:34

She is trying to train you.

But you are not getting it.

Daft human!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 01/10/2025 22:36

She wants you to follow her

minipie · 01/10/2025 22:37

Mine does this! She definitely wants strokes but she stands jussst out of reach so I have to get up to stroke her.

I think she does it to prove she’s in charge. She is, of course.

SuperBlondie28 · 02/10/2025 18:26

My cat has a weird thing she does. She's a black beauty, 🖤😻 We have a 3 seat sofa. I sit at one end always. DH middle. Her seat is the other end. To reach it, she jumps up on my armrest. Does serious nuzzling. Turns around on the little table where remotes are. Show jumps over DH's lap, like a horse. Finally settles at her end. Always does this...Its bizarre 😂

Cats are control freaks.

It never ceases to amaze me how these tiny furry buggers come into our lives and totally take over 😻

HotTiredDog · 02/10/2025 22:12

It’s what they do. I reckon it’s a power play. And I fall for it every time! 😻

I bought a nice new coat today. My cat would like to tell you he got a new blanket and the two things are TOTALLY unrelated

SnobblyBobbly · 02/10/2025 22:51

My little dog does this. I think she just likes to have the power 🤣

placemats · 02/10/2025 23:02

My cat used to do that when he wanted me to go to bed, at night.

During the day he just wanted to let me know that he'd done a pooh and can you possibly clean it. That the food in the bowl is an hour old and I cannot possibly eat it. I don't want out, but can you stand with me at this door.

500mileslong · 02/10/2025 23:07

Mine does this too in attempt to lead us to the dreamie cupboard 9 out of 10 times it works

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 02/10/2025 23:08

My cat does this, she also begs and begs for food, and as soon as we out it down she turns her back on it and goes out of the cat flap to survey the garden.
