London adventures - October to December

What are fun things to do in central London, either on my own or with friends in the latter part of this year? (Late 20s, Early 30s)

Also at some point do we stop romanticising London and get bored of it? What's there really to do that really excites people?

You need to narrow down what you find fun. History? Drinking? Art? Shopping? Food? Theatre? Very difficult to supply answers otherwise.

Arlanymor · 30/09/2025 13:22

It depends on what you like, but it would make to do things that you can only do in London. Have you ever been to the Tower of London? I used to get in for only a quid because I was a Tower Hamlets council tax payer... it was fascinating to be fair and I've also been to the Ceremony of the Keys a couple of times, but you have to book quite a way in advance.

All of these except drinking tbf. Don't really like alcohol these days.

I think I went a few years ago. Just I'm wondering at some point what's there really to do in London. I can't just eat out all the time

You don’t have to go to London if you don’t want to.

dancingbymyself · 30/09/2025 13:41

This is a bit odd because you can basically do everything in London…
Ceremony of the Keys is magical.
There are fun experiences like Fairgame, Crystal Maze, Lifesize Monopoly.
World class museums for free.
Niche museums like Leighton House, which is stunning.
Barbican conservatory.
Kew Gardens.
Theatre to go to every night of the week.
Talks, comedy, gigs…
Why do you think there isn’t anything to do there?!

I live here. I work here. I went to uni here.

Oh. I thought you were asking as a tourist/day tripper. That’s how your OP reads. So surely you’ve got a good idea of all the fun stuff there is to do already? And what you haven’t done yet but might enjoy?

Fair enough. My friends and I just usually go eat food. But I want to do something more. Something "real" and meaningful.

Some (varied) ideas I have are trying different bakeries in London. Joining a private members club. I also have this idea of doing a late night walk in central when it's dark. I personally want it to do it at 1am/2am.

I've not been out out and had a good late night boogie since uni. I want to dance around in central London till 3am and experience the city in the early hours. But then again I live in mile end, and how would I get back home all on my own in the early hours.

OK - somebody has to do this....

When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.

Especially in the colder months I want something good to do

The night bus or the tube, which runs 24hours on the weekend on the central line…do you really live in London?

Picoloangel · 30/09/2025 16:15

I always like going to see the Xmas lights. You can do a tour relatively cheaply or you can just get a bus that does part of the route. You do tend to see more of them from a bus.

Sorry I was thinking about personal safety about being on my own. Currently I always get back at sound 11:30/12 at the latest when my friends and I have a meal out. Haven't really been to bars and clubs in years. My friends prefer meals out and board games.

The Night Bus.

i have lived in London for 40 years and keep finding things I enjoy and are new.

The Time Out lists are generally useful.

Talks. exploring different neighbourhoods and parks. Different exhibitions. Different markets.

Wm Morrison museum in Walthamstow, Black Cultural Archives Brixton, The MI5 exhibition at the National Archives in Kew… there is always something.

I am kicking myself for missing the Red Roses party at Battersea on Sunday, and the full size replica Viking Ship that was on the Thames this summer.

I am an expert at getting cheap theatre tickets which is easy when you live here because you can just turn up at short notice.

tryingtobesogood · 30/09/2025 16:27

I downloaded a self-guided tour of Roman London a few years ago, that was lots of fun. Cycle the Thames pathway from Erith to Greenwich, Go on a tour of hidden underground stations, join a book club that only reads zombie books, swim in a lido when it is snowing

Thanks. I worry at times being on my own. Which is why I haven't done many true late night adventures since uni.

Not a late night thing but look up London Walks, they are offering really interesting walking tours with a huge variety of topics.

Register at Eventbrite for lots of options of things to do.

it’s over but we found unusual places to visit during the Open House days.

MrsFantastic · 30/09/2025 16:41

Use the seat filler apps if you like theatre/music/walks at bargain prices.

Thank you. Just saw. Didn't know it was a thing.

Sounds like this is less about what to do in London, and more that your friends have different interests to you?

jay55 · 30/09/2025 17:21

I’ve booked for the Chelsea lights this year, going late midweek is much cheaper than peak tickets.

The Hunger games opens in Canary Wharf soon. No idea if it’ll be any good. Also coming up Paddington at the savoy and Into the woods at the Bridge theatre both have fabulous casts.

Which apps do you use for this?

I used to do the seat fuller thing years ago and I'd like to get back into it now I have a bit of time.

My kids live in London and volunteer at various historic sites, have Tate membership and really get their money’s worth, visit different parts like Hampstead, Highgate, Kew Gardens …..they both love churches and parks, markets…..
One of them does a lot of art history classes at places like the Courtauld.

Pinkmoonshine · 30/09/2025 17:33

Galleries, museums and theatre is what I miss most about London. And if you are interested in History, there’s a lot to think about and explore.
