What makes your child indignant?

When my daughter was about three she used to get very indignant when I gave her vegetables with her dinner and would sit at the table and wail "you're trying to make me healthy" as though I'd done something terrible to her.

When I don't believe an obvious lie.

Algen · 30/09/2025 00:05

When you dare to insinuate that their understanding of something may not be 100% correct

Crumbelina · 30/09/2025 00:07

When you take them on holiday to Costa Rica and the restaurants don't serve plain pasta. 🙄

That cheese is not a fruit. Had the audacity to peel a baby bell and give it to them like a satsuma.

That her birthday is on 17th and not 7th. It wasn’t as though she woke up on the 7th and was then disappointed - this was the month before.

Taking an ice cream off her for ten seconds to wrap another napkin around it.

Not my kids, but a core memory from when I must have been 3 or 4. Walking to the park with my mum one day and a kid across the street saying to their mum "Look at that little girl". Remember thinking very indignantly indeed "I'm NOT a little girl" 😂

When she perceives that her brother had had preferential treatment.

SalmonOnFinnCrisp · 30/09/2025 07:34

Perceived non identical snack vs sibling

Perceived prefential sitting arrangements vs siblings

It goes on

Basically....
My thing < Siblings thing = Loud squawking and protestations

Suggesting that i did in fact know how to subtract properly and their method was wrong and they would always be one out.

Clothes without pockets or with fake pockets

Asking them a question.

No clue. I have a 5yr old who is completely unable to tell me how they feel, he still has the big emotions of his peers but is only able to express them in a very basic way. He does have moments of complete rage, when they have passed I often wonder "What the hell was that all about!?".

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 30/09/2025 08:46

At nursery (about 10 years ago) she told everyone that caterpillars hatched into butterflies, and butterfiles then hatched into chickens. She would not be told otherwise, despite the nursery actuslly having chickens. I’m half convinced there is a wave of young teens wandering around S Yorks who still believe this!

Also - kids cricket whites labelled as “boys”. They are essentially loose fit PJs and fits girls and boys perfectly well.

JoeTheDrummer · 30/09/2025 09:30

Mine get very indignant at any insinuation that they might be tired.
