Kids books with missing flaps etc - in the recycling?

I've got some books that DS is growing out of but some of them are not in good enough condition to donate.

They're not completely ruined but it is things like:

  • Dear Zoo where one of the flaps has been badly sellotaped back on
  • Spot the dog where one of the door flaps is torn but still attached
  • What the ladybird heard where the last flip is missing
  • The Jolly Postman but two of the letters are missing

I know the obvious answer is probably just to put them in the recycling, but it feels oddly wrong or wasteful somehow. Maybe because he's my first and so I've never experienced having a book in bad enough condition it has to be thrown away.

I obviously wouldn't expect someone to pay money in a charity shop for a book missing parts. I don't know anyone with children the right age to ask if they want them either.

Am I being weird? Does everyone else just shove them in the recycling bin?

Maybe try putting them on your local Facebook group for free collection?
If no interest then into the recycling.

Thank you. I hadn't thought of Facebook. This is a good idea.

I wouldn’t want to chuck them either. I would donate to my child’s nursery or preschool class. We always get sent our weekly book and in much worse condition that you have described. I think any day nursery would take them
