I'm taking a trip to Manchester soon and will ve staying in the city centre. Are there any nice mementos I can get my family?

We are only from London so not too far. It's just a business trip for me. But after work are there any nice things I can get for my family that are "Manchestery"

Anything with a Bee on it,

At Piccadilly station there's a card shop (opposite/along from Pret) that has a few Manchester themed things - tote bags, coasters, mugs, etc. Yes, with a bee 🐝

Yes, the bee is the symbol of Manchester( hive of industry) and you'll find lots of products with bees on them including household goods and ornaments, jewellery, bags and scarves etc.

Thank you!

How long would you be staying?

If you have time to go to HOME (arts complex in city centre) their art gallery has several Manchester themed things - prints, mugs, books, etc.

But the most Manchester-y thing you could get (that’s actually worth having) would be a Lowry print from the Lowry (another arts complex) at Salford Quays.

Plenty of time then!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 29/09/2025 12:12

Okay - let's not get into a discussion about Lowry being a Salfordian...

Visit the Manchester Shop in Affleck's Palace on Oldham Street.

I think there’s a range of Manchester souvenirs sold in a shop on Corporation Street (possibly part of the Post Office), opposite Selfridges/M&S, and close to the outdoor entrance to Next.

There are free walking tours every day at 11.00 starting by the Alan Turing statue in Sackville Gardens. You dont have to book, just turn up. I'd recommend one if you have time in your work schedule.

And if you have evenings free, then Dancing At Lughnasa is on at the Royal Exchange theatre from 10 Oct. The theatre is worth a visit even if you dont see a performance as it's an interesting and historical building.

Pastries and cakes from Pollen Bakery.

Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester Museum and the Whitworth Gallery all have lovely shops. The Pankhurst Centre also has a little Suffragette Shop, although opening hours are quite limited.

TroubledBloodyMary · 29/09/2025 13:30

Ah … I know Manchester quite well (though it seems to have expanded madly recently) and am currently in the city visiting friends. I have never yet been able to find my way to Pollen Bakery, despite having occasionally set out with that intention. (I know I could get a cab to wherever, but I want to be able to stroll there nonchalantly, and Google maps frightens me with tales of strange, unexplored hinterlands …)

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 29/09/2025 13:39

Neither branch of Pollen is hard to find - Ancoats one is just over the canal from ALDI, maybe 5mins walk tops. There's another branch on Aytoun Street, which is between Piccadilly Station and Sackville Gardens where the Alan Turing Statue is.

A Manchester tart, a truly delicious custard tart available from various bakers.
