Gift ideas for a member of staffs newborn

Just that really - I need gift ideas for under £30 for a newborn baby girl. I know he and his wife bought lots of clothes before she was born so was thinking more of a keepsake

I’d have been over the moon with £30 worth of baby wipes!

Btowngirl · 29/09/2025 10:16

Honestly with our first we were so swamped with gifts, which were not always to our taste (but much appreciated). The best ones were Deliveroo vouchers etc!

All4one vouchers/ cash + box of chocolates. So they can get what they need

I was given a Lamaze flip flap dragon when we had our first DC.
I thought it was hideous but when we started playing with it with the baby we realised that it had been chosen by someone who clearly knew what she was doing. Both DCs have absolutely loved it.

DappledThings · 29/09/2025 10:18

Definitely vouchers. You have no idea what people like as a keepsake. We had friends who gave us one of those kits to make a model of the baby's foot. Kindly meant but not for us and it went to the charity shop.

Takintoda3 · 29/09/2025 10:20

We would have loved vouchers for nice takeaways, instead of things like an unwanted Diaper genie or whatever it's called, which stayed in its box and was later donated.
Ditto for multiple stuffed animals which were never used.

PragmaticIsh · 29/09/2025 10:21

An alphabet or animal cloth book. Etsy has loads. The books are fabric with interactive things to touch on each page. DD was given one as a baby gift and it was brilliant, used it for years and it kept her busy when we were out.

SparklyCardigan · 29/09/2025 10:22

Honestly, just give them an M&S voucher. Then they can buy either a nice meal or some baby clothes. No-one wants a random keepsake chosen by a colleague.

Itstheshowgirl · 29/09/2025 10:24

Get vouchers, people get given a million ‘keepsakes’ for their babies, I doubt if many ever get kept.

caringcarer · 29/09/2025 10:27

My DD told me she really appreciated a box of 100 nappies someone had given her. Takeaway vouchers are popular with new parents as everyone loves a night off from cooking.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 29/09/2025 10:27

A nice book and vouchers for the rest

Mew2 · 29/09/2025 10:48

Again I would do just eat, deliveroo, cook type vouchers.
There is always that day when you are so exhausted with a new born that you can't cook
Or something like a Sainsbury's voucher so they can get baby wipes, nappies (I wouldn't buy unless you know the brand they use as lots cause babies rashes)....
The other thing someone bought me was some suction highchair toys- which we used loads- baby Einstein and Lamaze (but you never know what others have bought)
Or a book voucher for when they are fed up of reading the gruffalo for the 1000 time that day....

wineandagoodbook · 29/09/2025 11:43

Thanks all, I've read all the comments and the vouchers make sense, he works for me but I don't know them well so it was more of a token gift. I will send then a just eat voucher.

I would suggest a voucher for M&S, or for one of the stores that sell everything for babies including diapers, sheets and blankets, toys, clothing etc.
It's good to have a variety of things to choose from as you might be able to gift them something that no one else has that they would need.

BernadetteJune · 29/09/2025 15:48

Agree with other posters - buy them a voucher - Amazon, M&S etc. Then they can buy what they need or put it towards something. We were bought so many newborn clothes that they had grown out of before even wearing them!!!

RidingMyBike · 29/09/2025 15:54

We were given a John Lewis voucher from my work which was brilliant. Used it towards buying something bigger and it was quite a help with that.
His work gifted us keepsake type things which took a lot of unwrapping and were either never used or grown out of rapidly.

BCBird · 29/09/2025 15:56

Don't buy anything for the baby. Get something for the parents.

neleh87 · 29/09/2025 16:03

I agree that vouchers are great.
But if you did want to give something to unwrap:
*Vests in size 6-9 months as noone ever gives you this size.
*Nappies or wipes (get the most sensitive ones)

  • A photo album- I received one of these and really appreciated it!
