Clothes refresh sprays

I'm looking for recommendations for a spray to refresh slightly tired clothes.
I like the sound of the Celtic and Co one, with bergamot, but unfortunately it's out of stock. Bergamot/other light citrusy smells and not too powerful florals are my favourites.
Any suggestions?

I don’t want to be that person, but you could make your own with bicarbonate, water and a few drops of bergamot essential oil.

Exit: forgot the alcohol!

NorthenAdventure · 28/09/2025 15:38

What do the sprays do? Is it just to give them a nicer smell?

Yeah, a bit like febreze.

Stick them out on the line?

Won't your own perfume mask the occasional musty top that has sat in a drawer for a bit? Presumably your clothes are clean but they've just sat unused for a bit.

I want this for when I can't put them out on the line because it's raining.
I don't tend to wear perfume.
I want it for things that are not quite dirty enough to go in the wash, but just need a bit of refreshing.

Surely your clothes will just smell stale but with the spray on top?

BitOutOfPractice · 28/09/2025 17:35

I love the idea of making my own. Anyone got any recommendations?

The Clothes Doctor do really good ones that reduce the amount you need to wash delicate knitwear.

M&S do a really lovely Clothes Freshening Mist. £3. Yling ylang, and vetiver (I think).
It's really light, but freshens up the clothes well.

Gwenhwyfar · 28/09/2025 17:38

Wear strong deodorants (the 72 hour ones), preferably less perfumed ones so they are anti-perspirant but don't add much smell themselves and air clothes between wears. That should be enough to get quite a few wears from any clothes that are not knickers/tights/socks. I don't think Fabreeze is necessary if you do this.

(Apparently theatre people use rubbing alcohol for vintage clothes that can't go into the washing machine.)

Really easy. You just mix 1.5 cups of water with a with 5 cups of vodka, 10-15 drops of your favourite essential oil (or a blend) and a tablespoon of bicarb (not strictly necessary). Put it all in a spray bottle and shake for a minute or so

The 5 cups of vodka must make it quite expensive, surely?

5 cups of vodka ! , I know it depends on the size of the cup but that's got to be a litre or thereabouts

It was meant to say .5 cups as in half a cup! American recipe hence the cups. Please no one make it with 5 cups of vodka, that would be a disaster!

You certainly wouldn't care how your clothes smelt....

OneFootintheHedgehog · 28/09/2025 18:09

Actually, while we’re on the subject of vodka, isn’t it the case that spraying a little neat onto your clothes will neutralise any bad odours?
