Want to book a cheap weekend in Alicante. Any tips?

Obviously I will look at Skyscanner, Jet2, Easyjet etc. but I was wondering if anyone had any tips of great websites to use.

Alicante seems so expensive but we are meeting friends, so it has to be there.

Anyway., I thought it worth an ask in case anyone had any tips. Thanks in advance.

When - and where are you thinking of staying, is it Alicante itself or along the coast somewhere?

I've just had a look on LoveHoliday site, and can see three options in Alicante going 10/10 three nights for under £400 including flights. That's room only. That's going from any Midlands airport so prices may vary for other departure airports.

No harm having a look, as the price includes hotel + flight (but not transfers).

It needs to be a long weekend this side of Christmas (Fri-Monday). Preferably Luton or Birmingham. We want Alicante town. I'll take a look at LoveHoliday, thanks.

We’ve done several long weekends in Alicante. Book flights separately, then look at Booking.com for accommodation. There is a lot of choice and price range. Im not too fussed about accommodation as we are out most of the time. We have gone fairly basic before for about £45 a night, and although the room was basic, it was spotlessly clean and only a street away from the beach. We are looking at nicer places this time, but there are still reasonable prices options.
You can get a bus from airport to the town easily and cheaply (a taxi is about €20)

Thanks @whatsthestoryhunkydory. Any must do's or recommended restaurants? I'm excited as it'll be my first child-free trip.

I agree, get flights with EasyJet or Ryanair and book accommodation separately. We stayed in Habitaciones Amelia, booked via Booking.com last December for £43 per night. Fairly basic but in a great location and a huge room. There are loads of little tapas type places to eat immediately outside. Getting the bus from the airport to the city centre was quick and cheap. There’s a great tram train network where you can take scenic journeys to other coastal areas of the Costa Brava eg Benidorm or Altea. It’s a great place for a mini break.

@crabby thanks. That exactly what I want - tapas bars in the old town. Perfect!

Absolutely loved Alicante! Get ryanair flights if you can, then booking.com for accommodation.

Also, have a look in Mercat Central D’Alicant, it’s a two storey food market in central Alicante, there are the usual fish, meat, veg stalls, but also cute little places for a drink and tapas, especially on the lower level, it feels very authentically Spanish.

There's a castle to wander around too. Also a train or tram that goes along the coast so you can visit other places.

If you go after mid November the Christmas lights will be up and they're generally pretty good in Spain. Also look out for unwisely (or deliberate Grin) decorated palm trees.

I'm wondering if there's an event on, or possibly your expectations are unrealistic, as Alicante seems to be the sort of place that's quite good value for flights, accommodation and eating/drinking. People on the extreme day trips Facebook groups are going for £50 or about £100 if they stay overnight and spending hardly anything while they're there.
