Bloody braces! 🦷

DS had braces fixed to his teeth a couple of months ago.
They said he needs to wear them for 2 years and eat soft food - no sweets no fizzy drinks etc

He’s 13. I’m not with him all the time to police the soft food policy.

They have now popped off THEEE TIMES - ending in an emergency visit to the orthodontist which is an hour’s round trip. They pop them back on in 5 minutes.

Is it ALWAYS like this? Will this happen for two whole years?! It’s driving me nuts.

DS has had his braces since beginning of the summer, and this week we’ve been to the orthodontist twice for repairs! Second time, they decided to snap one of the wires to stop it coming off again, as it’s not strictly needed at the moment. But that’s of course case-specific.

If the bracket has come off, I suspect it wasn’t fixed on properly, you usually would have to chew rocks for them to move!

When my daughter had her braces fitted. We had an handful of emergency visits initially as the fixings that were glued to the teeth kept popping off (some of them just needed a stronger glue as they weren’t bonding to the teeth) It settled down after that and I can’t remember having to go back except once much later on for the same issue.

It’s been both brackets and wires.
Am going to ask them about stronger glue, thicker wire.

I currently have a brace (adult), in the first 2 weeks mine had also broken off 3 times. After the second time I was down to soup and milkshake determined to keep it on my teeth. After the third break they took a closer look, my top teeth were coming into direct contact with the wire on the bottom teeth. I would clench my teeth on a night weakening the wire, then the repeated tiny amounts of pressure when eating, even very soft things, meant the wire would break! The dentist added a slight block to two teeth, one each side, which means I can now eat normally again and no breakages since.

My 13 DS got braces in June and the wire has popped off 3 times and the bracket once. I don’t know what he does, my 16 DD has not had one issue with hers and she’s had hers since March, I honestly don’t know what he does.

DD had this happen a few times, nothing to do with what she'd eaten, the wire would just pop out and stick into her mouth. Her treatment was involved, jaw realignment, exposing tooth in roof of mouth and twisting, but it was the tightenings in the last eight months that seemed to cause problems.

She was under the hospital for her treatment and it soon became clear that they would see her but it'd be just before the afternoon surgery, so at least I knew what time it'd be each time.

Interesting! Thanks. We have just had the adjustment after the first 3 months so will see how we get on this time 🤞
