To do a pregnancy test or not?

I’m 44.5 years old, having major peri symptoms. Periods have always been regular as clockwork. 2 months ago I had a very short cycle, this month I’m a week late. We had sex 4 days before I was due on, used a condom.

To test or not to test?

Don't test.

Assuming no budgetary or logistical problems with buying a cheapy test why wouldn't you?

Im 47 and have been having peri symptoms last couple of years. Been fairly regular but cycle gone slightly shorter. Last 6 months my periods have gone haywire. Totally missed one, 2 normal, then 2 weeks late, then 2 weeks early. However I'm not currently sexually active so no need to test but in your position definitely would. It's unlikely that you are pregnant but if you don't want a child at 44 its best to find out sooner than later.

Yeh the knowing sooner rather than later is what’s making me think I should test although my gut feeling is that it’s the peri menopause.

Feels a bit silly to I suppose. The chances of getting pregnant are so slim, we’ve had no ‘scares’ in over 25 years so it wouldn’t make much sense for our contraception to fail us now.

I’ll test tomorrow, for peace of mind.

I would. I’m also having major peri symptoms and had an appointment with a nurse a few days ago. She told me that although everyone assumes that as you age you get less fertile, in peri the opposite is true and a lot get caught unawares. Apparently it’s not unknown to ovulate four or five times in a cycle, so while each ovulation has a lower chance of conception, there are more chances each month.
