Lulu interview and saying hellacious, same as fergie to Epstein

I saw about 30 seconds of the recent Lulu interview on BBC where she used the word "hellacious".

Tbh I haven't heard this word before and thought she'd made it up.

But I've just read on another thread where Fergie wrote an apology to Epstein and used the same word, actually "hellaciously".

Weird coincidence?

I am not a tin hat person usually, I promise.

You're going to have to spell this one out for me. What is the conspiracy you're seeing here?
Lulu actually wrote fergies email.
Lulu and fergie are the same person (I've never seen them together)
Lulu has some link to Epstein?

notacooldad · 25/09/2025 11:02

Its just an American slang word.
Ive heard the kids I work with say it, in their faux American accent which sounds a bit weird when they are from Yorkshire.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 25/09/2025 11:19

This happens to me sometimes

Its just that she read fergie's email and its been playing on her mind

Why its been playing on her mind though, i dunno - are her and fergie friends? Does she fear cancellation? 👀

Reachedtheend · 25/09/2025 11:19

Well done you for sticking with the interview for 30 seconds.
It would be 30 seconds too long for me.

AmyDuPlantier · 25/09/2025 11:34

It’s really not a new word

Lilithcomelightly · 25/09/2025 13:24

I caught that interview too, to me it seemed that Lulu was about to say the word horrendous but quickly changed it to hellacious.
I also read the Fergie quote regarding Epstein and her use of the word hellacious.
Although I haven't heard that word used before, apparently it's been in use since the 1840s and has had revivals in the 1920s and 30s so hardly a new word, it's just been revived.

Gall10 · 25/09/2025 13:32

Hellacious….never heard it before this week
physicality…seems to be the word of the moment on sports channels, I’d never heard of it until this year!

unsevered67 · 25/09/2025 13:36

It’s a word only used by people who think they are relevant, but no one actually gives a shit about them

MeatballMenu · 25/09/2025 14:08

It's not some weird, woo, coincidence. It's an actual word that is in the dictionary. Google could have told you that. This is one of many, many results.

NoisyLittleOtter · 25/09/2025 14:13

It’s just a word. One that has been in use for a fairly long time. Just because you’ve never heard it before, doesn’t mean something is afoot because you happen to have heard it twice in a week.
What conspiracy are you seeing here? Do you think Epstein ordered all of his friends to use the same word?

whataweekImhaving · 25/09/2025 14:25

Just a coincidence but it is the only two times I’ve heard of this word as well.

i assumed it just meant the same as “hellish” and felt it was pretty unnecessary, but having looked it up I don’t think it has purely negative connotations, the way hellish does.

Still don’t think it’s a word I would feel any need to use.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 25/09/2025 16:00

Google says that - The earliest known recorded use of the word hellacious is from 1847. It appeared in the American newspaper Spirit of the Times: A Chronicle of the Turf, Agriculture, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage.
The word was formed by combining the English noun "hell" with the suffix "-acious" (as in audacious). While the Online Etymology Dictionary suggests a 1930s college slang origin, the Oxford English Dictionary places its first appearance much earlier.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/09/2025 16:08

Loathe them both. I’m suprised either of them can use words of 4 syllables.

DreamOfTheRarebitFiend · 25/09/2025 16:12

I seem to recall it being used sardonically in the 80s. Not a new word as others have said.

Very intrigued as to what you think the conspiracy might be, though! 👀

neveradmit17 · 25/09/2025 16:12

Poor Lulu, just when you think life can't get any worse you get linked with that ex of prince Andrew.

By the way, never have I seen such fabulous cosmetic surgery than on Lulu - she looks great! Must be to do with her natural bone structure. I also read a bit of an interview with her the other day and I wish her well. As for the other one mentioned upthread...

It has GOT to be the second one.
Mainly because they are both smug, over inflated by their own egos and annoy TF out of me.

She's always been insufferable. It was a known secret she was an alcoholic.

TheExcitersblowingupmymind · 25/09/2025 18:07

In the same bracket as Lorraine Kelly playing the professional Scot.
I can say that I'm Scottish.👍😁

What a weird take on a very normal word.

They both have red hair as well 🤯

MeatballMenu · 25/09/2025 19:24

I heard the word "the" on R4 this morning. I also heard Nigel Farage use the word "the". They must be in cahoots.

She said Fuck on This Morning yesterday so.there is that !

Pedallleur · 25/09/2025 19:25

She just makes me want to SHOUT!!

PastaAllaNorma · 25/09/2025 20:05

It's been around forever, but never particularly common.

I was rewatching The Wire today and drugs were described as an old hand as hellacious.
