Too much going on

I'm feeling overwhelmed. Work is hectic which I can normally cope with but everything is building up.

  1. There's so much that needs fixed in my house, shelves need put back up, plastering needs done, painting needs done, the garden needs sorted, it all needs a deep clean, I need a new bed, wardrobe needs replaced etc. I can't afford most of this. Some house stuff is urgent as if I don't do it the damage will spread e.g. sealing.
  2. I need a new car and can't afford one.
  3. I need to buy birthday presents
  4. I need to buy Xmas presents, at least for the ones that need posted abroad.
  5. The dog needs to go to a specialist
  6. I need to buy a new phone as mine is on its last legs
  7. I have some medical stuff going on which will mean a number of appointments

I just feel so frozen with so much going on and worried about money. Help!

I feel the same, I keep making lists to get it all down on paper in the hope I can create some sort of order, but then I just realise there is too much to do even then! Will follow for any advice…

Most of the things you listed in the first paragraph are things that don't sound too urgent so perhaps you could put that off for a while?

If your ceiling is in bad shape that could be a problem that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

How badly do you need a new car? Is it about to fail while you're driving or become unreliable when you need to get somewhere?
Is there another form of transportation you can use to do the necessary, and which does not involve the purchase of a new vehicle imminently?

Birthday presents.
Not very specific, but if you must give them perhaps you can look for something creative and certainly less expensive.

Xmas, sorry this is very personal but I think I would think twice about posting Xmas gifts if I was feeling as overwhelmed about finances as you are.

Dog needs to see a specialist, is this the veterinarians advice?
Do not let your dog be in pain or discomfort.
Only you know what has been recommended, but getting your dog seen too properly is more important than posting Xmas presents overseas to people who I'm sure who would understand your situation, if you explain to them.

You have medical problems as well, and yes they will likely involve appointments.
Then you must go to them, even if you have to take another form of transportation, if you are unwell you cannot work.
Try some breathing exercises for relaxation, they do help when you feel overwhelmed.
It's not a nice place to be.
Write down what your priorities are, I would say your ceiling if it's in really rough shape, your health and that of your dog.
All the rest you might just be able to manage and or put off for a while.

https://goblin.tools/ToDo Might help you make sense of your list and also helps break it down into steps. There are other tools on the site too but i havent used them.

being overwhelmed is not good and for me it just makes me shut down and not do anything! Try and look at the list and see of there are any quick wins?

Thanks. It's not my ceiling. It's sealing working in the bathroom to prevent leaks.

Feeling a bit better today after getting two of the jobs ticked off. Guess I just need to prioritise and keep going.

Let go of the cosmetic stuff and focus on all the stuff that can cause damage. Totally forget everything else and repair the most important things.

I hear you as I'm the same. What helps is breaking things down even more by priotising them too.

  1. There's so much that needs fixed in my house, shelves need put back up, plastering needs done, painting needs done, the garden needs sorted, it all needs a deep clean, I need a new bed, wardrobe needs replaced etc. I can't afford most of this. Some house stuff is urgent as if I don't do it the damage will spread e.g. sealing. Do the ones that affect the fabric of the house ie leaks, roof etc. Then work on one room at a time. Start with the one that will make you happiest to complete, ie bedroom for relaxing. Ignore the garden until Spring and concentrate inside for now. Ignore wardrobe and use chairs, how bad is the bed atm - springs gone, giving you backache, need just a mattress?
  2. I need a new car and can't afford one. How much longer will it last realistically, ie until the next mot in June or next week? Have you looked at Autotrader for a decent second hand car?
  3. I need to buy birthday presents? No you don't NEED to. Get a card and maybe chocolates or flowers. Set a limit of £10.
  4. I need to buy Xmas presents, at least for the ones that need posted abroad. No you don't NEED to. Tell everyone that due to CoL you are cutting back this year. Or limit it to £10 a present. Others might be relieved to hear this too.
  5. The dog needs to go to a specialist. No comment, I paid a fortune for my cat 😬
  6. I need to buy a new phone as mine is on its last legs? Argos sells decent smart phones for under £200 bought outright if you aren't sniffy about brands/android. Own sim is cheap via giffgaff.
  7. I have some medical stuff going on which will mean a number of appointments. Hugs. That's all.

Edit - didn't mean to keep the actual quote too, sorry everyone!
