Dizzy spell followed by fluttering in ear

I woke up a few nights ago, turned over to the other side in bed, and felt so dizzy, the room was spinning for a few minutes.... I'd never experienced anything like it before. Felt slightly dizzy briefly the next day but nothing like during the previous night.

A couple of days later, this fluttering sensation has started in my right ear - it's not constant, but comes and goes the last few days. No dizziness.

What could this be?

Is it tinnitus? My mum and a close friend had this and it comes and goes

I get this, something to do with my inner ear. Mine was caused by me hanging right over the stove disconnecting the gas head hanging down

TrickyD · 23/09/2025 20:49

I had the head crazily spinning effect while lying in bed plus a couple of dizzy moments while standing. My heart rate dropped to well under 30 beats per minute, fine for a Kenyan athlete not so good for a middle-aged woman.
DH phoned 111 who sent an ambulance and I was given a pacemaker the next day.
So maybe get your heart checked. Though there are various other causes of dizziness.

How’s your blood pressure? Take reading each day at the same time for a week to establish a pattern . Could be high BP

Could be a small bat in your ear

PurpleLass1234 · 23/09/2025 21:14

I’ve had exactly this for the last two weeks, GP said it’s labyrinthitis

ThreePears · 23/09/2025 22:02

@PurpleLass1234 I just came on to suggest it might be labyrinthitis.

Lyma78 · 23/09/2025 22:07

Thank you for that suggestion, I'll read up about that. I've never had high BP - if anything, it's low at times
