Hyundai Ioniq 2020 Electric car

So still considering a Nissan Leaf but also seen an online a Hyundai Ioniq ( 2020). It’s a 100kw 38khwh version.

Does anyone know anything about these cars in terms of how reliable, how comfortable they are?

Cheap to run? Would it cope with a 60 mile round trip to work daily? Cost much to charge Apparently the range is over 190 miles.

Any advice appreciated.

Ioniq what?

There are different Ioniq models.

My husband has one that was first registered in 2021 but it’s the same as the 2020 one.

he loves it. It’s great to drive and as a passenger. He commutes 75 miles to work (150 mile round trip). He s able to top up his charge at work.

We don’t have a smart meter so I’m not sure about the cost to charge. On the motorway services he pays around £12 to top up his charge.

We had one. It was tempremental. Massive computer screen inside.

It used to lock itself and do all sorts of stupid stuff. Locked itself several times with no way of getting in to it. Also would refuse to charge when it felt like it.

Comfortable though.

We've had one for about 6 months. I know very little about cars, but we love it! It's comfortable and lovely to drive. We do a Mon-Fri round trip commute of about 32 miles. We had a charging point installed and charge it every few days. I'm not sure how much it costs tbh but dh worked it out when we first got it and it's certainly miles cheaper than our petrol car! We've never used it for a really long journey yet, as we have another car so we can avoid charging en route.

If you need to fast charge a lot on the public network, I'd avoid the Leaf as it has a funny connector, the CHAdeMO. They're mostly being phased out as fast chargers now, as most new types of electric car have type 2 CCS connectors.

It does have a standard AC connector, which is the one you'd use with a home wallbox charger or the 7kw supermarket chargers. So it doesn't matter so much if you'll be doing 99% of your charging at home.

We’ve got a Zappi charger. Our neighbour recommended it.

Comefromaway · 21/09/2025 21:12

Yes there is. It was sold between 2017 & 2022

Comefromaway · 21/09/2025 21:16

I mean technically Premium is a trim level, not a model but I know what OP means.

In 2020 it was just called the Ioniq, no number.

The Ioniq 5 & 9 came later.

caravancapers · 21/09/2025 21:19

What is your budget? If it can stretch to an Ioniq 6 I’d recommend. I much prefer the look of the Ioniq 5 but even though the only difference is the body shape, the 6 is 4.2 miles per kWh compared to 3.2 miles for the Ioniq 5, simply because the 6 is so aerodynamic.

Range of 300+ miles and costs 2p per mile. My husband drives 30,000 miles a year and the total running cost of the car is £50 a month. The petrol savings are pretty much paying for the car.

Big outlay, but worth it if you have the funds and drive a lot.

dh has had his for 15 months now.

Why dont you get a Toyota Prius or something?

Far better than then Hyundai and WAY better than the POS Leaf.
