Anyone else with a really weird 48 hour cold?

I woke Friday feeling rubbish. Glass throat, sneezing, sweaty and headache. Kept going to about 4 pm then went to bed. Couldn’t breath properly, really sore head and sinus pain. Couldn’t work out if I was sweating because I was cold or too hot. Felt dreadful. Yesterday was the same, all day. Managed get Sudafed from the chemist which relieved some of the facial pain but felt miserable. If I had a Covid test I would have taken it.

Woke this morning feeling better. Slept on and off. Took some paracetamol first thing and I now seem to now be back to normal bar a slight cough. It’s been a really odd 2 days.

I had this 2 weeks ago. Felt rough for 48 hours then all symptoms gone apart from a very slight cough. The slight cough turned into a really annoying persistent cough which I still have now and it just won't shift. It's probably the current strain of COVID. I've not tested.

JustToBeMe · 21/09/2025 18:13

I think I’ve got something similar.
Friday had a slight cough, been sneezing for a couple of days prior to this.
Woke up during the night sweaty and warm to the touch, snotty nose, extremely sore throat, took some ibuprofen and fell asleep a couple of hours later.
Woke up Saturday feeling rubbish, runny nose sore throat gone tho! and still sneezing, feeling tired warm and cold.
Today has been similar, hoping it’ll be gone by tomorrow 🤣 for work…

I’ve just had something really similar, which was particularly annoying as I was on holiday.
It felt a bit Covid-y.

I had similar but it lasted a week, I did a Covid test as we had some from earlier in the year when I was off it and curious
anyway it was positive, it was much worse than when I had Covid the first time round, I couldn’t sleep but couldn’t do much else either, total brain fog and although I felt better ish after 7 days the headache is still lingering and I have random coughing fits
it’s also came with a really upset stomach

Champagneforeveryone · 21/09/2025 18:40

I've got it but it keeps coming and going. I'll be rough for a day or so, get better the next day and then be right as rain. A few days later it comes back again following the same pattern. It feels like I actually just need to be properly ill to get it out of my system

DS has had this last week - brutal but short cold. It was Covid for him, we have a pile of tests as we were part of a study group that had the funding pulled so it didn’t finish. He’s fine now and touch wood the rest of the household seems okay!

GivingUpFinally · 21/09/2025 18:48

Literally just had this. Went home work ill on Friday, spent yesterday in bed and feeling OK ish this afternoon. The morning was a bit rough. Slight cough still and a bit achy. Literally thought I was ramping up for a horrific virus/flu but it seems to have almost disappeared.

mindutopia · 21/09/2025 18:58

Dd had this last week and it was COVID. Her feet go funny when she gets COVID so I dug a test from the back of the cupboard and yep, COVID. She was fine in 48 hours, like you said. I’m immunocompromised and never got ill, nor did ds. Dh, on the other hand, has had the sniffles for about 2 weeks now.

declutteringmymind · 21/09/2025 19:03

I had something similar that floored me. It was Covid.

FrondsofFriday · 21/09/2025 19:06

We currently have covid in this house. We tested because we also have someone currently undergoing cancer treatment.

It’s just as shit as I remember it being.

What study was this if you don’t mind me asking?

ShesTheAlbatross · 21/09/2025 20:48

Oh I hope this is what I’ve got, means I should be ok by tomorrow morning!

I was fine Friday morning but by bedtime was exhausted, razor blade throat pain, headache. Worse yesterday, even worse this morning, but feeling better this evening.

Assuming the DC will get it soon and be off school.

Ihatemondays1962 · 21/09/2025 20:55

Yes, I have been the same. Felt a bit sniffly and sneezy on Friday, worse yesterday and then woke up today feeling back to normal.

Covid tests often don't go positive till day four or five now. We've got it too.

This is me, it’s so annoying.

MayaPinion · 21/09/2025 21:11

Sounds like Covid. It’s doing the rounds at the moment. My DSis works in a pharmacy and said there was a 10 fold increase in people buying COVID tests over the last few weeks, and because we’re all just carrying on as normal when ill now it’s spreading like wildfire.

Office of national statistics.
Our household was chosen by random at the start of the pandemic, it was blood tests with a needle draw initially, then a finger prick, then a normal Covid test, then cancelled…after they'd sent big boxes of tests out!

When they said on the news the numbers/percentage of people infected it was from this study.
We had Covid in the house several times, sometimes with symptoms sometimes not. And not all of us caught it every time. It was quite interesting to know what was going on at the time!

I remember it - that’s the one that finished (albeit a lot smaller by then) in Winter 23/24? Thanks for taking part. There seems no monitoring now, apart from a small fraction of symptomatic people in hospital. Shame.
