Do I really have to put up with this from DH?

He has changed the toilet roll in the bathroom. All good. But... and there is a but... he has left the empty cardboard tube on the bathroom floor - next to the bin.

Aaarghhhh.

What do I do? Shall I leave it there?? 😂

Put a smiley face on it, and an arrow pointing towards the bin, and leave it on his pillow. I feel your pain.

When ds moved out of his uni accommodation, there was a pyramid of empty loo rolls in the bathroom. They turned it into a joke.

mzpq · 21/09/2025 11:20

Just tell him to go and bin it?

Noagency · 21/09/2025 11:21

DH does this. I think he means to take it to the recycling but never does. It makes me so cross I can't even bring it up. 🙄😳😂

ThrivingIn2025ing · 21/09/2025 11:22

I can beat that. My DH leaves his soft plastic recycling on the kitchen counter. I think he believes it grows legs and walks to the plastics recycling bag by the front door.
I have left it there before in protest. It’s lasted a whole week until the cleaner is due and then I break and remove it. So tempted to stuff it in his pillow case.

Errolwasahero · 21/09/2025 11:23

I do this sort of thing all the time 🤪. Apparently I seem to have a problem finishing things!

childofthe607080s · 21/09/2025 11:24

Well I guess that means he wants it for something so stuff it in his desk drawer or shed or …. Wherever it will annoy him most

ThreePears · 21/09/2025 11:34

I'm liking the smiley face idea.😍

I'd make a bed out of a shoebox and turn it into a pet loo roll for him. He's clearly attached to it and has probably named it. Would you put a pet in the recycling?

DH leaves them “on the side” in the bathroom, meaning to take them to the recycling- but guess who is the only person in the house who actually does take them to the recycling box?

Answers on a postcard please.😁

Anyway, I have had another idea. I'm going to take his used dental floss off the bathroom windowsill, wrap it round the tube and tie it in a bow.

I’d assume he left it by mistake and so I’d just leave it and he can sort it when he next goes in there.

Do that, or ask him could he please store his plastic bag collection somewhere else as it's in the way

Even better @ThreePears tie the floss around the tube and trail it to the bathroom bin? 😎

Tontostitis · 21/09/2025 11:58

I do this it's my silent Fuck You. My DH once commented that he was the only one to dispose of the cardboard tube 3 years after he moved into my house and having NEVER done it before. That was 13 years ago and I haven't done it since. No point being married if you can't hold a grudge properly.

Aria2015 · 21/09/2025 11:58

I have just started to buy toilet roll free toilet rolls to solve this and it's been great!

It is on the opposite side of the bin to the toilet, so he would have had to reach over the bin in order to put it there.

I am somewhat reluctant to criticise his housekeeping skills because I still work. He is retired, and does a lot of housework while I'm out. I would not want to do anything to reduce his current enthusiasm for domestic chores.

Toilet roll free rolls??? Whattt??? Where from?

Arregaithel · 21/09/2025 12:29

@Gatekeeper these?

Tireddadplus · 21/09/2025 12:29

LTB 🤭

GreyAreas · 21/09/2025 12:40

In that case, do not escalate! You have too much to lose in the ensuing battle

My thoughts exactly. He is generally a messy person and leaves stuff lying about, but now he does the housework he has no choice but to clear up after himself. I don't want to do anything to jeopardise that situation. 😂

I mean I could try nagging into submission but it’s not effective in my experience.

Musicaltheatremum · 21/09/2025 16:45

I leave mine on the side and my husband moves them to the recycling bin. He's a keeper 😂
