If you children have left home and you haven’t any elderly parents to care for anymore where would you like to live and why.

As someone who actually lives there, Whitby fails on several of the OP's criteria though - no cinema (other than occasional screenings at the Spa or Coliseum), the nearest Waitrose and airport are both well over an hours drive away, and due to the high number of second homes and holiday lets, 'neighbours ' are likely to be holiday makers that change from week to week... and dogs are banned from the beach throughout the summer.....

I was thinking Whitby is the last place I'd move to. I love visiting and also going to the bay, Staithes etc. But it's full of tourists. And yes I'm often one.
I live by the sea. Not touristy though. Close to a town and a short train, car or bus ride to a city.
If I moved it would just be to a bigger house but not far away. House prices are good here. Even if we won the lottery I wouldn't go that far.

Kendal in the Lake District. It meets all your criteria except it’s 90 minutes to Manchester airport.

There is a train station with direct trains to most cities and you are close to the sea.

I'm pretty happy with where we live now - smallish village that feels green and rural, but is minutes drive from a major motorway, walking distance to a train station that takes an hour to get to an airport and a short drive from a couple of major supermarkets. I think if I could add anything to it, I'd like a closer (and cheaper!) village pub and more of a village centre (like a small market town maybe?)

I just wish the weather was a bit better in the UK. Im
mot fussed about the sea/beaches, but I'd love to be able to spend a lot more time outdoors.

I love where I live,by the sea. But I would like a gorgeous airy flat overlooking one of the parks in central London as a base for dipping into city life.

We made the move a couple of years ago from London to Montreal. Best decision ever.
