Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just finishing off my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed & gone back to bed, I've got the second load of towels in (first went on a timer), and I've put braising steak in the slow cooker for tea. Unfortunately, I discovered one of dd2's wireless earphones in the towels I took out of the washer...not sure that'll work any more 😥

We have nothing planned again. I'll finish off the peg dolls I didn't quite finish yesterday, and dd will probably carry on the homework she didn't quite finish.

The rest of the day will mostly be pottering, doing odd jobs, maybe listing some more things on Vinted for me.

This evening, we'll have the braised steak with mash, peas and carrots, probably some Yorkshire puds too 😋. Then, after tidying the kitchen it'll be showers and chill. I'll have my usual Self-Care-Sunday scrubby everything shower, followed by removing my old & chipped toe nail polish, then an hour or so with my book before bed, ready for work tomorrow 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

But until she surfaces I’d recommend sticking them in a bowl of rice and just not touching them for 24 hours, shake them out and then submerge them totally. Don’t try and turn them on now.
we’ve done it for phones in the past that have fallen in the bath 😂

gingercat02 · 21/09/2025 10:39

Morning all. I'm doing v little today. My usual class was cancelled so 8m still on the sofa with a coffee. Load of washing on.
F1 is on at 12, closely followed by football, but I might leave the lads to it and poo to the local retail park for a few bits. I need a new load tin, some plant pot covers and some things from Boots.
Probably fajitas for tea (Sunday night favourite if we are all at home) bit of telly and a glass of wine.

lucysmam · 21/09/2025 10:39

Sorry your dd's not settled so well @Kim82 . Where is she transferring from? When will she move to Liverpool?

Dd was determined that she'd be in London for uni right from finishing her GCSE's, so I suppose it was 'easy' for her to settle knowing the city a bit & some people already there.

Good morning @lucysmam and all.
We're on the road to Bath to take ds1 back to uni. Early start for us but only 45 mins to go.

He started out a bit gloomy when we left home but has been checking out all the parties and club nights as we've sat in the car and his mood is shifting to a bit giddy and excited the closer we get.

He's insisting we don't need to help him unpack as we'll just annoy him and interfere, so we're planning to dump his stuff then all wander into the city and get Sunday lunch before the 3 hour drive back again.

I'm craving a quiet weekend @lucysmam so am a bit jealous of your pottering day! That's next weekend for me.

gingercat02 · 21/09/2025 10:41

Oh and cat food!

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I missed last week’s threads and yesterday’s as I was away. A week in Greece on my own which was lovely. I read nine books. Well nine and a half really. Missing the sun already although it’s quite nice here this morning.

Back to reality now. Still on Greek time so was up before 6 this morning. So far have done two loads of washing with a third load in. Had breakfast and went for my walk. Just having a coffee and then need to pack up our kitchen/dining and sitting areas as painter starts tomorrow. DH doesn’t have the same sense of it needing to be done today that I do so I’m stewing a bit already. He was supposed to do some while I was away.

We need to make a makeshift kitchen in the utility room. Which means tidying the utility room. So I think I’ll start there now by vacuuming and washing the floor.

Dinner will be lamb shanks with mashed potatoes, peas and carrots. And wine.

lucysmam · 21/09/2025 10:45

@mamaduckbone dd didn't want us to unpack either. We just did the spendy things like buying bedding, and some food shopping. Must speak to her later on actually, I am certain she needs to learn to use the oven this week, and needs to actually top up the food she has eaten!

She’s currently in Falmouth @lucysmam. She had looked at the uni online but hadn’t visited the area and she said it’s just too quiet for her and she didnt like being so far away from us as she’s very much a home bird. I’m glad she realised it’s not for her so quickly tbh and has been able to sort a move.

I’m not sure when she’ll move to Liverpool yet, she needs to speak to student finance on Monday and we should have more information then.

Liverpool is only a 40 minute train ride from where we live or 45-50 mins in the car so we can take her any time really once her accommodation is sorted. We should know more in the next few days. She can just commute from home to the uni if there’s no accommodation available straight away but she’d much rather stay in uni halls to get the full experience.

mondaytosunday · 21/09/2025 10:52

Gosh you’ve done so much already @lucysmam! I’ve just finished breakfast - did come down at 7.30 to feed the animals and let the dog out back but went back to bed after. We were supposed to go visit relatives an hour and a half away for a birthday lunch but my DD woke up with a hideous cold and migraine. So dog walk then trip to shops to get her her favourite chicken soup then back home and I’ll probably just tidy kitchen and crochet - I’ve finally capitulated and am doing the viral pumpkins using the wheat stitch. Dinner will be pasta and we are trying to finish watching Bloodline before I take my DD back to uni next weekend.

Stressing about our trip to Heathrow tomorrow.
The airline emailed me earlier about checking in online, but it wouldn't let me. Said check in at the airport, and then told me I needed to fill in the US required contact form - which we'd already done earlier in the week.
I'll try again later this afternoon, but it's just stress I don't need, what with a minor car accident (not my fault) on Friday afternoon, and just dumb stuff like worrying about the taxi turning up at 4am, and stressing about the state of Heathrow airport this weekend... I know I won't relax until we're in the air! Currently crossing all my fingers.

In the meantime, I'm expecting my mum to arrive in the next 20 minutes or so. I've moved my car out of the way so she can park easily. We'll have lunch, and then off to the cinema for the Downton Abbey film. Hopefully that'll provide some nice distraction.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 21/09/2025 11:19

Found the cushion covers in the wardrobe so now to choose from robins, peacocks, Italian scenery etc etc. Got a little carried away on Temu!

lucysmam · 21/09/2025 11:42

@MarmaladeSandwich7 you have reminded me I bought some autumnal covers last year! I'm going to root them out to wash while I'm getting dressed.

I've spoken to dd1, repaired a corset top of hers, started varnishing yesterday's peg people and tidied up my side of the table too this morning. Most importantly; I've worked out the single setting she will ever need on her uni halls cooker 🥳. Just need to talk to her so she can find it since I can't fiddle myself! She's currently on her way to collect her friends - presume they're off back to hers.

Morning @lucysmam and all, or should I say good afternoon! Went and did my supermarket shopping this morning and have just sat down with the Azerbaijan GP. Dd is having her friend over soon and then I will get on with some gardening because it is a beautiful day, I have some bulbs to plant, really cute miniature narcissi including ice baby and rip van winkle, then I have a bit more work to do and will cook roast pork for dinner. Have a lovely day all!

WhineAndWine1 · 21/09/2025 12:43

Day of house work for me. Everyone is out so I have done the bathroom, kitchen and living room. All that is left to do is the stairs 😤 and the bedrooms. I have literally 10 mins of work to do for a supplier but their attitude stinks and I don’t want to do it haha. Once that’s done I’m going to tackle the junk cupboard!

Dinner is the M&S pie deal with mash and veg. Followed by cake and custard to watch MAFS with.

TheChosenTwo · 21/09/2025 12:45

@lucysmam dd said she just left her AirPods on a sunny windowsill the first time and the second time they just worked straight from the machine.

lucysmam · 21/09/2025 13:11

Thanks @TheChosenTwo , it's currently in rice - hopefully it'll work ok once it's dried out a bit. Tbh, I'm surprised they've never gone for a swim before now! She's not the most careful person going!

Today I had a slice of toast, took DS and DD to church then drove back via the Co-op to get some eggs and milk. Then when I got back DH was out and I hadn't taken a key, so rang him. Luckily he wasn't far away.
Had another slice of toast and a banana then got the metro and DS and DD joined me at West Jesmond and we went down to Seaburn to Fulwel Windmill because it was open as part of the UK Heritage days, which were taking place 12-21 September.
The tour was really interesting and the windmill is unusual in that it's quite big inside with extra speace rather than straight up and down. Our guide, Judith, explained that all of the wood inside the windmill is oak except for the 'teeth' of one of the wheels which is applewood because apparently apple wood breaks cleanly and doesn't give you splinters, so if one breaks it is easy to replace.
And there were some apple trees outside, laden with apples too right now.
Although it's a 200 year old 'working windmill', it doesn't actually produce flour but it still could.
The wind changed direction at one point so we could see the sails going round from the inside; DS got some great photos. although he was mainly delighted with being able to see the metro station!
Back in the other building we had some juice and biscuits and did some colouring despite us all being adults. ds saw that there was a dead fly in the orange juice so we all had blackcurrant - but he did tell them so they could get it sorted.
They told us someone had complained that they were open on a day there was a Sunderland match - not sure why that person couldn't do both as they were open all day.
Then we went for our dinner at the local pub and came home.
I was a bit annoyed on getting home that dh hadn't done anything about the dishwasher; when i asked why he said, 'I knew nothing about the dishwasher, you just mentioned the washing.'
Despite the bench being covered in dirty dishes. Everyone else who stays in the house manages!
Went for a brief walk with DS and DD as need to get back into that habit, it had kind of gone on hold after not being very well the other weekend.
Thanks for the thread, off to read about everyone else now

Cleaning my house in preparation for my friend’s arrival to cat sit our one year old kitty for twelve days. Beginning to pack for a ‘northern lights cruise’ to the Norwegian Fjords with my DDs and Dsis to celebrate my birthday. Photo of Lady Mary the cat,
because I can’t stop taking photos of her 😂
