Cat being a bit weird

In August our cat spent a fortnight at the cattery. She has been going there for several years and I have no concerns about the level of care. Shes always came back fine.
Over the last few weeks she has been behaving oddly. Toileting indoors. Going out and looking like she is attempting to toilet but simply squatting for several minutes without producing anything then walking off and excessively cleaning her bum. Doing it several times in different places. I have also found evidence of her having sprayed in one place.
She is otherwise totally fine. Eating and sleeping and going about her day exactly as normal. She is not behaving as if she is ill.
All vaccinations are up to date.
Vet has seen her and could find nothing really wrong. Gave us some calming medicine for a week and an anti-inflammatory.
Anyone got any advice.
I will return to the vet on Monday.

Cystitis?

Smartiepants79 · 20/09/2025 14:49

I had wondered that but the vet didn’t suggest it. She’s not behaving like she’s got a fever. The vet checked and said her bladder was empty. Not blockages.

Maybe ask for an antibiotic just in case? Every time any of my cats have behaved similarly, it's been cystitis. 😟

I will take her to the vet and get another opinion.

Did you get your cat seen, @Smartiepants79 ?

Smartiepants79 · 23/09/2025 20:58

Yes! thank you for asking. Still
rather unsure about what is wrong. Vet couldn’t really pin it down for sure. Urine sample showed traces of blood but not really signs of infection. Most likely is cystitis caused by inflammation- young cats don’t really get it caused by infection apparently. Worst case scenario I think seems to be a kidney problem. Anti inflammatory medication for another week and then we’ll see. Costing an arm and a leg! £60 on one weeks worth of pills! 😱😫

Hopefully the anti-inflammatories work. 🤞
Do you think it might be caused by stress?

My male cat had this (although he was retaining urine) and it turned out to be stress....
