Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot. Boy cat came to wake me up at 5am & snuggled up when I didn't get up, then girl cat tried at 6am 🤣. She went to sleep at my feet when I also did not get up then! They've both been fed & happily dashing about upstairs now before they go back to bed.

We're not really doing much this weekend - dd2 has homework she wants to get done so she can work on planning for an exam, and she really, really needs to tidy her room, again!

Dd1's having a blast in London. She's spending the weekend with two friends, one lives there and the other is staying over. They went to Camden to see an artist's billboard yesterday. She hasn't properly met any flatmates yet, despite sitting in the kitchen to eat & just being in there sometimes on the phone with us 🤷‍♀️. She says it's like a ghost town.

I'm going to clean the bathrooms, hoover the stairs, do washing and upload some items to Vinted, then settle down to start some more peg dolls I think.

We're having curry for tea, I fancy potatoes as a side so will look for a recipe shortly so I can get on with those 😋.

After that, it'll be showers and probably another episode or 2 of The Rookie, dd2's favourite programme, before I head to bed 💤.

What about all of you? 🙂

Currently sat on the sofa looking down the garden with Ddog2 curled up on my lap.
OH is prepping dinner for tonight.

Good morning @lucysmam and All,
Where abouts do you live where there are seals @gingercat02 <jealous>
Ive just got back into bed. I had the kind of work week that makes you feel numb by the end of it and I still hadn’t finished so got up and did some more work this morning and will probably do more this evening when dh is out. Also need to find out if ds girlfriend is coming for tea as she is vegetarian and do some shopping. In the afternoon I am meeting my mum and an old family friend at a garden centre for a catch up so that should be nice. Have a great day everyone!

@gingercat02 i couldn’t resist getting in for a swim!

It's the north sea, too cold for me. I like my water tropical 🏝🏖

gingercat02 · 20/09/2025 11:20

@GardendiaryIt's St Mary's Island Whitley Bay. There are about 20 atm

thebeautifulsky · 20/09/2025 11:23

Waiting for apple and blackberry sponge crumble tray bake to cook. Family coming over for lunch today. They messaged this morning to say they'd be over. So jacket potatoes, beans, tuna, salad etc for lunch. Oh, and I've got some homemade chilli in the freezer. I wasn't expecting them today and haven't done the food shop yet. DH doing a bit of DIY in the downstairs toilet. Hoping DGC don't discover the wet paint in there! Plan to rest when they've all gone home. Had my flu jab yesterday afternoon and feeling a bit achey.

Me and DH are having fajitas for dinner and may find a film or Netflix series to watch. Any recommendations?

Enjoy your Saturday whatever you're up to.

wobblycake · 20/09/2025 11:28

Oh lovely. My parents used to live in North Shields, great part of the world. Im in the midlands now, about as far from the coast as you can get. I miss the sea (although it does look particularly damp and chilly in your photo today!)

@thebeautifulsky would you mind sharing the recipe for the apple and blackberry sponge tray bake? that sounds just my kind of thing.

Here it is. I just add a handful of blackberries to the apples. Turns out perfectly every time and very simple to make. Enjoy

Demerara sugar makes the topping on this apple crumble cake nice and crunchy. This cake is perfect for a coffee morning and it's not too sweet.

Hi everyone…
much more relaxed weekend then last …
I mentioned last week daughter wasn’t settling at her second year of college well …. But she’s attended 3/4 days this week without any drama … tutor said she’s had a good week and up to date with work …. And she’s excited about a placement she’s been put forward for.

she’s working 10 hours at her work today - so she will be too tired to cause much trouble I think !

sons been to his maths tutor and been to fix his push bike (£85. 😳)

husband at work all day

he asked me to meet him for a jacket spud for lunch - but I don’t think I want to get dressed 🤣

I have washed up and wiped the sides down but I might have peaked for today

FamingolosForDays · 20/09/2025 12:09

Afternoon! I have missed these threads for a few weeks.
I had an enormous autumn clean and furniture reshuffle last weekend so I feel less guilty for having escaped to my best friends for the weekend. The DC have stayed an extra couple at their dad's for various reasons so I took the opportunity while I could!
We went to watch the rugby semi final 1 yesterday which was fantastic, and were lucky enough to get resale tickets for today's semi eng vs France. Chuffed! In the nosebleed section but ay least we will be dry 😆

We have had lots of wine and box sets, stir fry later for tea. Then back home tomorrow for another week at my new job (which has been awesome but I am so drained!)

mamaduckbone · 20/09/2025 12:19

Not quite morning, but happy Saturday @lucysmam and all.
Great that dd1 is enjoying London @lucysmam - I went to uni in London in the 90s and as a small town girl my mind was blown!
I went for my usual run and chat this morning then wandered into town with ds1 and Dh to get ds some last minute toiletries and cleaning stuff - we're taking him back to uni tomorrow and we're really not very organised in comparison to last year.
This afternoon I'm going to make ds a cake to take back and share with his housemates, and watch ds2 play rugby, hoping the rain holds off.
Singapore noodles for dinner with everyone here plus ds2's gf then a chilled evening before a 3 hour drive in the morning.

Morning and best wishes to all for the weekend.

I have hiccups at present so waiting for them to pass. It can get quite irritating when it happens every 5 seconds.

@dontforgetme sorry dd's struggling 😥. Dd2 did for a very long time but it does get better. Does she have friends outside of school?

@Imperfectpolly I do them for work - I work in a primary school. I've painted hundreds over the past 4 years. Currently on my table are 3 blind mice, and some little ones to number 1-10. They'll be finished shorlty then varnished & off to school on Monday to go on displays.

The linked curry traybake looks tasty!

@DilemmaDelilah will you be able to get your missing meds ok? I dread trying to get hold of mine if I ever forget them.

Dd1's just rung - she's managed to get a production hold ticket for Post Malone's gig tonight for the princely sum of £2.something pence...so she's off to Tottenham with one of the girls from the flat above! I'm not jealous at all 🤔

I'm in Helsinki for the weekend. Went for a swim in the hotel pool this morning, and sauna with a view over the city, then stuffed myself at breakfast. Went walking about being touristy and taking pictures in the centre and now we're back at the hotel having a rest, OH is fast asleep in fact.
Tonight we're going to see Robbie Williams which I'm very excited about!

The kids are at their grandad's. DS has called me about ten times already today, telling me he can't find his tablet, while I tell him he just needs to look harder.

Shall see about something to eat soon. I wanted to go out to a restaurant but don't think OH can handle any more walking so might just eat in the hotel.

We have been here a long time, it's lovely. We did live in Manchester for a few years. Too far from the sea 🌊 it was wet but not cold.

OneLilacEagle · 20/09/2025 16:10

Good afternoon all. I'm very late today, which is ironic as I've been up since 6, for no reason! Covid has been kicking our backsides for the last 2 weeks but we're finally getting back to normal but very tired . Took DS to our gorgeous local sauna and managed a brief dip in the sea, too. Then he took a random notion to pamper me so I had to sit with my feet in a footspa whilst he cooked me an omelette - kids are so bizarre. He's rummaged out a load of old games consoles from the attic and is currently setting them up for a old school gaming session. DH is making dinner - I'll go and help in a minute. We're having beef california and mash with roasted Brussel sprouts, a family favourite. Some Japanese study and a bit of TV later with wine and cross stitch.

I was up early and in the supermarket by 7:15. Didn't sleep terribly well, as I got rear-ended while stationary at some traffic lights yesterday afternoon, so I was quite jittery. The car has survived with some war wounds, including a small hole where it got punched by the other cars numberplate bolts, and a cracked boot lip. It's been reported to the insurance company and is in their hands.

It could have been timed better, as I'm going to be out of the country for the next 10 days from Monday. Oh well.

I spent all morning ironing and then packing the clothes I want to take away with me. Packed my sponge bag and assembled all those other little odds and sods, including all the necessary paperwork. I think I've got everything now. Although I did take a little lunch time trip back to the supermarket because I'd forgotten Imodium! I often get a bit of a funny tummy on holiday, so I like to be prepared. I've still got tomorrow if something else suddenly occurs to me.

I'm holidaying with my mum. She'll be here for lunch tomorrow, and then we're going to the cinema to see the new Downton Abbey film.

Hoovering is done, but I still want to mop the hall and kitchen. The kitchen needs cleaning as well. It's fairly clean, but it's never "mum visiting clean" is it?!

DilemmaDelilah · 20/09/2025 18:41

@lucysmam I should be able to ring my GP surgery on Monday and get a prescription sent through to a pharmacy near me. If not - then Mr Dilemma will just have to drive home and get them!

I just had my second swim of the day, had a nice hot shower, and Mr Dilemma is just dishing up a ready-meal lasagne.

Welcome to London (I went to uni there and stayed for 16 years because anywhere else in the UK wasn't as fun at the time)
