Amy Hunt love

I just wanted to share a bit of Amy Hunt love! She seems so lovely, so strong, and did you see her absolutely leg it to win that silver in the 200!?

"I am so proud of myself".

"I could have chosen an easier way out many times. I chose to go to Cambridge to get a degree - in part for myself to look back on and be proud of, but also to show other young sports people, other young girls that you don't have to give up education.... You can be an academic badass and a track goddess."

She gave a great interview, that's what confidence in young people should look like: not cocky, just backing yourself and unabashed in your ambition and pride - YES Amy 💪

Anyway, I just thought a positive thread would be nice. Apologies if there is already an athletics thread going today.

100% agree with what you have posted. It was a brilliant 200m race!

murasaki · 19/09/2025 16:41

I've been watching her for a while and she always seems so lovely, definitely progressing, and is clearly very bright, both academically and in managing her career and races. I almost welled up at her elation after she crossed the line!

MNJury · 19/09/2025 16:46

Yes, it's always interesting to watch the talent coming through, and even better when they actually come through and perform when it matters!

I'm not really a crier, but if anything is gonna get me it's elation at a well earned race win... Or their parents'....

Oh yes, her mum was definitely crying. And carefully making sure her daughter's make up was not smudging as she cried too for the photos, bless her. It was very sweet.

dynamiccactus · 19/09/2025 18:11

She's brilliant - such a well run race. Lets hope we have a bit more luck now, we've had a few people who should have done better being injured etc so lets hope Keely, Georgia, KJT, Morgan and others can bring a few medals home!

murasaki · 19/09/2025 18:14

The relays are usually good for a couple.

MNJury · 19/09/2025 19:04

Keely is the real deal, I'm really looking forward to her race and willing her to get the result she deserves. Georgia Hunter Bell is going to great to watch too, how amazing would two medals be.... shh don't say it!

I still think Georgia should have gone for the 1500, even though it's a gimme for Kipyegon, but hopefully she'll do well.

RaraRachael · 19/09/2025 19:15

She's the sort of young woman that kids should be aspiring to be like rather than vacuous instagram influencers with no talent whatsoever.

dynamiccactus · 19/09/2025 21:49

So true.

dynamiccactus · 21/09/2025 14:27

It's interesting how little interest in sport there is on MN. Virtually no comments on here at all.

Anyway well done to Keely, Georgia and KJT. Thank goodness the women got a few medals (with no disrespect to Jake Wightman, who did brilliantly as well).

RaraRachael · 21/09/2025 17:12

Yes not much interest in sport but several pages devoted to weight loss jab discussions 🙄

Ireland edition (and NI can claim a gong here as she was born in Newry) but Kate O’Connor was magnificent in the heptathlon. A joy to watch.

Lua · 21/09/2025 17:21

Really proud of all she has overcome! Well done!

She was brilliant, 5 pbs from 7 events I think. No-one was going to beat Anna Hall, but she put in an amazing shift. Especially considering the timetable was very squashed compared to normal where they'd have breaks mid session.

I also love the way the heptahletes and decathletes all support each other and celebrate together. Similar to the pole vaulters. Maybe it's because they are all mad!

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 21/09/2025 18:16

Amy ran we brilliant race. Well done to her and I look forward to watching her a future events.

RaraRachael · 21/09/2025 18:38

I love the heptathlon. Maybe it's because I was fairly good at most events but not outstanding at any

I think it would have been my choice if there had been an athletic club anywhere near.

Absolutely agree, she was fantastic, such a great effort and the result was thoroughly deserved.

I still think Morgan Lake should have stuck with the heptathlon. Her high jump is ok but not amazing and she was pretty good as a junior.

Haha, I think some shared crazy has something to do with it! But also the time spent - sprinters for example just don't have the same amount of time spent in active competition so they are more "fixed" on the race ahead rather than on their competitors (although I know there are some good displays of sportsmanship and support in all events).
