Mouse war

Live in the country so suspect I'm fighting a loosing battle but... Have had the odd mouse sighting in previous years, but generally in the midst of winter. Humane traps and Nutella did the trick. However I suspect we are now over run. Spotted in the living room, bathroom and kitchen. Traps and Nutella ineffective, been no where near. So far OH contribution has been oh is it the same mouse? Rather waspishly I said I wasn't an expert in mouse identification. Once sighted little fucker or fuckers leg it and can't be found. I'm veering between pest man or a cat. Truth be told I'd love a cat. Does anything actually work or am I just going to have to put up with it (or move).

I think a cat could work, especially as you said you'd love one anyway. No mice dare come into my house but there are loads nearby, as one of my cats has demonstrated over the years. Some cats aren't very good at hunting, but the presence of the cat should put them off, especially if they are in the main run of the house and not the attic or inside the walls.

I know it makes me a bitch but just get killing traps. Rentokil ones with the deep wells; pop some peanut butter right down there and they'll trigger it.

Kitty cat! 🐈‍⬛ They’re as much of a deterrent as anything else.

Go around the outside of your property & find all the places the mice are getting in, block with wire wool & then cement over. If you can find where they are getting out into rooms, buy some cheap mouse & rat poison blue pellets, put down the holes then block with wire wool, I used cheap brillo type pads, places like where central heating pipes come through floors are usually the worst culprits. Clear any overgrown areas outside your home, long grass is a favourite place to make nests.

We had a few in one year they had walked in through an open door. Not been able to leave and started breeding. We were seeing them everywhere but there were only eight of them. We used snap traps and then got two cats. End of problem

The presence of my cat didn't deter the mice that invaded my house a few weeks ago, although she did manage to catch one.

I would start with the kill traps loaded with a Snickers bar, but it sounds like a bad infestation so you might need to get pest control out.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I need to ramp up the trap thing, I just have the only mice in UK who don't like Nutella. OH job tomorrow is walking round the outside of the house looking for holes. Fortunately or unfortunately someone I work with has kittens needing a good home in two weeks 😘

Maybe something solid then can nibble on like chocolate drops? 😂

I used to have pet mice in the 80s and they'd nab those out of my hand with venom.
