It's a 'how much are cleaners in London now?' one

So we had the same cleaner for years, and she didn't put her hourly rate up in that time which was fairly cheap to start with, but she's left to retrain for a new career.

I have had a rate from a cleaner who comes well recommended by someone in our circle and I wanted to get an idea if it was normal or steep - she's saying £18 an hour. I had an idea that it's at least £15 an hour these days, but wanted to get an idea if that's normal, as I just don't know going rate. Nb, in pretty ordinary Zone 4 suburb, nowhere posh.

That’s what ours is now. I think it’s pretty standard in London tbh

Helpmyface · 18/09/2025 19:50

South East £18 per hr

Echobelly · 18/09/2025 19:51

Thanks - I'm prepared to pay it, but I know she is also a cook/nanny so I didn't know if she might be charging a higher flat rate than someone who just does cleaning. Being a bit money aware as DH is between jobs, so it's good to know that's standard.

North East and I know cleaners charging between £18-£25 per hour.

They have to pay their tax, NI and insurance and supplies so pretty standard I would say

VenusClapTrap · 09/01/2026 14:10

I pay £20, but they’re not particularly good so I just asked for a quote from another cleaner who is highly recommended locally. She charges £23. Not even in London - village in Sussex.

ApisMellifera · 09/01/2026 14:13

London, £22 same as both my neighbours.

BlackberrySky · 09/01/2026 14:16

I am in London and pay £16 per hour. I guess it depends how hard you want to look - most are about £18-£20 I would say but you can find someone good for a bit less if you're prepared to spend a bit longer looking.

Bjorkdidit · 09/01/2026 14:49

Considering they only get paid for the hours they're at a clients house, so not paid for travel time and they don't get annual leave, employer pension contributions or sick pay, £18 is probably at the lower end of what they should be charging.

London - £20 per hour

BowlyLarr · 09/01/2026 16:21

I think £18-20/hr is typical. It’s one of the reasons I don’t have a cleaner!
