I have never used a full sized mop...I find them really ineffective and unwieldy...so I keep a reserve of dish towels to soak in hot water and scrub the floor that way

That’s for a deep clean and what I used to always do but I have a mop now - it’s the knees

I don't understand why everyone uses a toothbrush to clean their teeth. A few years ago I started using a small toilet brush (brand new obviously) because it is so much bigger than a toothbrush it is much more effective.

I put toothpaste inside my mouth, swish it around and then pop the toilet brush in. I have calculated that one stroke with a toilet brush is worth between 8-11 strokes with a toothbrush.

Using this method I am able to thoroughly brush my teeth in about 20 seconds. It's not for everyone, my husband tried it and said it made him gag so he is sticking with a traditional brush. It sounds a bit weird but give it a try.

What does your dentist think of this technique? Are they happy with your dental hygiene? I can't imagine it's getting into all the nooks and crannies very effectively with a 20 second swish round....

AphroditesSeashell · 18/09/2025 12:35

I use the ironing board 'the wrong way round', so I'm told.
Apparently I do it as though I were left-handed - although my actually left handed son doesn't have the board set up this way, so I dunno...

If my husband sets the board up, I need to take it down, flip it and put it back up again the way I want it. When I iron, the narrow, tapered end is to my right when I'm facing the board - if anyone is interested.

I remember the doctor asking me at my 6 week check-up if I was left-handed because of how I passed the baby over to him. I must be doing something to give a left-handed impression to others!

exactly, I’m sitting in my dental surgery now and I can’t ever recall a dentist or hygienist recommending this technique 🤔 in 22 years ever

I have mine with the iron rest bit on my right and the tapered end on my left. I'm right handed and if I had it the way round you do I'd be awkwardly reaching for the iron.
But I do have to put the board down and then up again the right way round if my dh sets it up. I can't just turn it around for some reason.

@SteakBakesAndHotTakes I also clean the floor on my hands and knees using either a bowl of flash floor cleaner or spray if it was meant to be a quick clean. I do have a mop, but I feel it doesn't clean it as well, but it's good for a quick wipe over

Probably because they profit from the sale of toothbrushes 🤷‍♀️

hexsnidgett · 18/09/2025 21:18

I iron as described above, even though I am right handed. It would feel so awkward to manipulate the clothes over the pointy bit if it was on the left. The rest bit is pointless.
