Ikea mattresses yay or nay?

I’m mattress shopping, which I’m hating as can’t decide as know I want it to last me and be comfortable. I see ikea gets quite few mentions so I just wondered anyone got an ikea mattress here what range and is it good? Or would you recommend any others? I’m a side sleeper and like medium feel! Thanks :)

I've got one- think it cost £99- I've had it for 3 years and it's still good. Sleep on my side like you and it's so comfy, I use a fairly thin foam topper as well. I would never bother with a fancy one again because IKEA is better I reckon.

I'm not keen on IKEA mattresses, but also be aware you need an IKEA bed, they are longer than British mattresses.

I have an ikea mattress at the moment. Its been on for 4 years and absolutely no issues. I had one before that lasted 6. I between I had a few years of those mattresses in a box type things and I hated them with a passion.
They smelt. They were too hot. They sagged massively.
My ikea mattresses have never had those problems and you get the guarantee with them which others don't offer.
And no, you don't need an ikea bed. Normal king size divan here and it fits perfectly.

My kids and our spare bed all have the Abygda in medium firm and it’s great. I’d happily have it myself but we have a non standard bed size bought in the US. I would go test in store though because a mattress can be quite personal.

@LadyDanburysHat that used to be the case years ago but ikea have made standard UK bed sizes (single, double, king) for ages now.

Mine fits my normal sized double bed.

Our kids have them - the midrange pocket sprung ones. They are really comfy. I recommend trying out the firm or medium firm though to see what you prefer.

I didn't know that, it has been some time since I had an IKEA bed

I think the whole fancy mattresses thing is a total con - they use the same trick as cosmetics manufacturers do, pretending there's a whole load of complicated "science" involved that requires you to spend a shedload of money. It's total bollocks.

We have Ikea mattresses, they're good (and I'm the world's fussiest, lightest sleeper). I sleep on a Valevag with a Tistedal topper.

We bought a really expensive mattress a couple of years ago and it has been awful. From day one I was convinced I could feel the springs, then I felt like I could hear them so we bit the bullet and bought a mid range from ikea a couple of weeks ago and it’s been absolute bliss. I’ve slept like a log and don’t feel/hear a thing. Plus all my kids have them on their beds and they have never complained.

Mrincredibull · 18/09/2025 10:34

We bought one last week. about 300 quid. Partner insisted on having the firm one. I had the worst week of my life and he had the best. Finally said it's going back and took everything off. He'd put it on the bed the wrong way and the spongy side was down. It ok now with a topper. He's less happy his perfect bed is now not perfect. But it is the right way up now.

TheDandyLion · 18/09/2025 10:56

Our current and previous mattress were the cheapest from Ikea. We replaced the last one after about 7 years, and this one is now on its last legs at about the same sort of age. Neither are particularly luxury cloud like feeling, but did the job for the price. For the next one we're looking at getting a mid-range one instead.

We have a fabulous IKEA mattress, going to bed is my favourite time of the day! Getting out of it less enticing!

I stayed with a sibling recently and they'd done up the spare room. The bed was so uncomfortable, I wondered why they hadn't invested in a new one. You could feel every spring. Turns out (they told me proudly) it WAS a brand new, and very expensive, mattress from John Lewis! 😬 They can't possibly have tried sleeping on it, it was terrible and reminded me of the first bedsit I rented in London where I used to sew bits of cardboard over the mattress to stop the springs poking into me when I was asleep.

Agree with a PP that mattresses are marketed with a lot of bullshit.
