Part time jobs that make you rich!

I currently have my own business, dog walking etc. It’s going well, generating decent money, little outgoings. I love what I do, it is certainly my ‘dream job’, except for one major thing; The Pay.
I want to begin studying towards a ‘proper job’, but I have some terms for this future career which are making it quite hard to decide on what to do. I’d want it to be part time or work from home, in order for me to preferably keep connections to certain clients (as I also do some extra things for them, too).
I am smart and academic, I am happy to do whatever qualifications it would take, that isn’t the issue, it is just extremely hard to find a job that would give me a decent income, and would work alongside my current business (I’d be cutting down my hours).
I enjoy nature, cooking, whole foods, health, and of course animals, but I am open to absolutely anything, including ‘boring’ things within finance or admin.
Does anyone have any ideas?

I want a sort of impressive, professional qualification/job, but that allows me to still continue dog walking on the side!

Perhaps re-phrase without the word 'rich'. that's misleading and subjective and contentment is a major part of that not simply 'cash'.

Some form of animal managment of vert nurse qualification. you could go into teaching or vet nursing and rise up to high level career.

So, flexible and WFH.

Sadly those criteria are unlikely to make you rich, particularly without experience.

How about mobile grooming, or dog behaviour classes? I know someone who makes £££ from an online dog behaviour consultation business. They have clients worldwide (apparently).

I know someone who does luxury dog holiday care. They only have one dog and the dog has some settling in sessions before the holiday. He makes vision the dog having walks or whatever and sends them to the owner and the dog is allowed to sleep in bed with my friend if that’s what they want to do. He makes a lot of money.

I would love to do vet nursing, but unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to commit to the placement hours whilst maintaining my current job.

So if you break this down really what you are looking at is doing a part time study /training route into a well paid job ….the quickest way to do that will be building on what you already have, so what can you build on that you already have ?

You need to define the salary you're looking for. Two career areas that are often WFH and often offer flexible working hours are finance and IT. Would you consider these?

MidnightPatrol · 17/09/2025 20:46

What other services could you sell to your existing client base, would be my question.

Given you know them, they have money for luxuries like dog walking etc. Other household PA type tasks?

Dietician? It incorporates your love of whole foods, can be part time studied and then applied with clients. Maybe even a canine dietician, if something like that exists. Maybe a service that looks after over weight dogs- scientific based weight loss diet alongside you exercising their dog. It seems niche but rich people will pay £££ for someone to do all the thinking and hard work to get their pooch into shape.

Define rich and decent income.
How much per hour. ?
Are you prepared to study and learn?

A very specific skill or learn a profession you could charge >100 £ per hour.
For example here are solicitors hourly rates Solicitors' guideline hourly rates - GOV.UK https://share.google/lzyJeJaTv8iXt5e8C

I second dog grooming. You won’t be rich, but groomers are expensive and very hard to get a booking with!

I bet the (human) clients are a nightmare though, when their (previously matted) dog comes back shaved.
