I’ve just moved house and there is no utility room. I’ve parked the condenser tumble dryer in the kitchen while I figure things out, it’s beside an exterior wall and a socket point, but nada, no power when plugged in.

the socket works - I plugged a lamp in and bingo.

i ran an extension cable from another kitchen socket and the tumble dryer sprang to life! Machine is two years old.

It’s the type with a drawer for capturing water so no plumbing necessary.

I want to move it to the converted garage at the front of the house which is now an office, I hate it being in the kitchen as there is no space, but do I need to consider electrics or is it maybe just a shite socket???

I’m aware an extension chord isn’t a good idea, that was a test to figure out the problem.

am I missing something??

I would plug it in somewhere else and see what happens. That would give you an indication of what might be dodgy. It could be it’s just not connecting in that socket because of slight issues with shape of plug that aren’t actually going to cause problems. We ran the condenser dryer in our house regularly for 2 years before it shorted and we had to pull it out and look at it. Turns out that it and the washing machine were both just plugged into a very old extension lead. 😳

Have you tried something like a lamp in the socket the tumble dryer wouldn't work when plugged into? That way you can identify if the socket is the issue.

FYI, condenser dryers will take longer, and therefore cost more to run, if they are located in cold places like a garage or outbuilding.

Yes. I plugged a lamp in and the wall socket works!
it was mum cast doubt in my head saying something about maybe needing more power than a traditional socket but I think that’s wrong as I have been on the brand website and there is no mention of anything like that!

Yes! - that’s why I resisted everyone telling me to put it down in the garden shed!

the room I have in mind is the original garage at the front of the house, it’s a regular room in the house now, and my office!

so basically I’m not missing anything? I’m worried someone will say - you wally - it needs to run off a xyz-yoke 😁

I bet it’s just a crappy socket!!!! A red herring

That actually gives me hope, there is nothing special required! And same here, I unplugged the kettle, plugged in an extension lead and that’s when I had a tumble dryer again!
