I don’t want to use my next account, it’s clear and I need to keep it that way for mortgage purposes but it isn’t giving me an option to just pay normally ?!

Change payment method, select debit/credit card and enter your card details. That's what I do.

You have to ask them to change it to a pay as you go account. I had this issue too.

Oh! Absolute joke they just want us all in debt to them ! Why not make it easy and be able to switch between the two ?!

Yes, my sister had a next account in the nineties and she’s tried everything to get it changed to so she can pay just on her card and she can’t get them to do it.

whatasillygoose · 16/09/2025 08:12

I know this is a pain but could someone else (partner) set up an account with no credit and use that?

As you said it’s just hassle I’d rather go in there but obviously it’s easier ordering online, I have the stuff ready to go on my basket just want to pay for it lol £350 worth of kids clothes but like next as it’s food wailing and washes well etc so don’t mind paying it but im not getting into debt for it

What if you ordered it then paid it off straight away? I guess any returns may go back on as credit.

I remember calling them actually to order and pay once.

seratoninmoonbeams · 16/09/2025 08:39

Using credit is good for your credit rating in mortgage terms. So buy the clothes then pay it off when you get your statement. Obviously never ever pay interest. You could also buy using your account and set up a DD to pay off entire balance each month. But yes. Having available credit and using it is good for your credit score.

MightyGoldBear · 16/09/2025 08:45

I've tried to change this and my name change and called up three times to them saying they would do it for them 3 times to not do it. I gave up.
It's cheeky of them really I'm not a a frequent customer so Its easy to forget its not been paid and then have a little panic attack about it. I just wish they had the option of paying straight away.

ExquisitelyDecorating · 16/09/2025 08:49

Could you set up a separate one with a different email address? I've never had an account, just pay by card on the odd occasion I order things online so it must be possible, I remember it being like this in the days of the Next directory, I didn't realise they still did the account thing.

RitzyMcFee · 16/09/2025 08:50

Yes, still to this day. She’s tried to get it changed on the phone and in person in the store. It’s the bane of her life as there’s hardly any shops left!

And it’s a joint account so she can’t even set up a regular one in her husbands name.

peterwabbit · 16/09/2025 08:53

So I called them and she said I have to checkout as a guest, you think I could find that option ?!
I ended up typing next guest checkout into google and it took me straight to the page with my items already in the basket even though I’d signed out before trying that !

On the credit front, I have excellent credit due to everything being paid off on time before etc I just don’t want anything there as we’re halfway through the house buying process and don’t want our lender thinking I’m rinsing off credit accounts 😆

I don’t shop at Next for this reason.

I can’t believe it’s legal for companies to do this, it’s disgusting.

They’re preying on people who are likely to forget to pay it off or don’t realise about the high interest.

brytersky · 16/09/2025 11:25

I think you'll have to log out, clear cookies then don't log in again and see if the basket is cleared. You'll then have to start the shop from scratch and check out as a guest.
