Is there a service where someone will collect, then post an item for you?

That is legit?

There is an item on FB market place (London) that I really want but the lady won't accept online payment or post as she is worried about charge backs etc.

So she wants cash on collection. But I don't know anyone in London so is there a service where I can pay someone to go and collect it, pay her cash an post it?

But it needs to be legit otherwise they could end up with my money and the item :/

The whole thing sounds dodgy AF to me. Is this item really worth it?

How is it dodgy?

I buy stuff from FB market place constantly.

Cash on collection is the safest way to buy, buyer gets to check the item and seller gets cash that can't be withdrawn.

The only issue is I'm too far away.

Airtasker or Task Rabbit? You will find someone on there who'll do it for a fee? Or otherwise it's a courier, picking up the cash, going to her to collect item and bringing it back. Which might be expensive?

But what if it's damaged or not what you actually want? A third party will have already handed over the cash so you will be stuck with the item.

Taskrabbit - it would be classed as an errand.

When I say it sounds dodgy I’m talking about getting a stranger to collect it for you. What’s to stop them taking the item or swapping it? And what protection do you have if it’s broken or not as described?

I've done this before for another Mumsnetter. Bought a dress which was sold out everywhere local to them and posted it to them.
Where in London is it and what size package/value is it?

EeveePeevee · 15/09/2025 12:08

The value is £150 and it is boxed kitchen items
