Hi can anyone recommend a good dehumidifier to help with mould as upstairs gets quite bad. Also how much am I looking to spend? Thanks.

I bought a Meaco 12l about a year ago for about £150, I think - worth every penny, highly recommended.

I also have the above Meaco 12L - it’s been a great buy.

I had a really old one until the summer when I bought a Meaco 20L. Was £200. It’s very good.

Sorry to jump in I bought a meaco a couple of years ago and it’s been brilliant. Thing is I’m not sure if I’m supposed to leave it running 24/7 or just intermittently? The house isn’t particularly damp or anything, it’s just the two of us in a three bedroom semi.

We too have a Meaco 20l one. Seems expensive but it is worth every penny.

Whatever works best for you

We use it mainly in the bathroom after a shower. But its blurb does include it being on all the time

Same here and it’s brilliant!

Anyone else fascinated at how much water collects? It amazes me that there’s that much moisture in the air.

GasPanic · 17/09/2025 14:30

Depends on a few things.

I have a Meaco compressor which works well, but in retrospect I would have gone for a dessicant because I keep my house colder and they work better at low temperatures.

I also would have tried to get a dessicant with a HEPA air filter as I really hate dust but the choice on dessicants is a lot more limited so may not really be possible.

If you have people in your house who are sensitve to dust it makes a lot of sense to combine air purifying and dehumdification in one unit. You can get compressors with HEPA filters no issues.

i have quite a large damp old house with high ceilings. I have a Meaco 25l with hepa filter and I wouldn’t be without it - it’s amazing. Around £300 if I remember rightly, and I also have to buy a new pack of filters for about £30 reasonably regularly.

Another Meaco fan here!!

We live in a 1860's cottage and it is absolutely brilliant at keeping the house moisture free and we don't have even a spot of mould or damp and our damp levels are always good (we have a hand held tester)

We literally swear by it. The air in our old house is also just noticeably warmer and the walls warmer to touch etc.

We run ours overnight, every night and a little more in Winter months if we feel the house needs it.

Itcantbetrue · 17/09/2025 21:15

Meaco and it's an air purifier as well
