Is it too early to bother the GP about this? Pelvic pain

4 days ago, I woke up at 4am in excruciating pain. I couldn’t get up as I thought if I did, I’d burst down there. It was one sided, to the right. In the lower pelvis. Excruciating. If pregnant, I’d have called an ambulance as it felt what I image an ectopic pregnancy would be like. Can’t remember how but I remember propping myself up slightly with my elbows and this very warm, almost heat sensation with the pain disappearing simultaneously

Ever since, I keep getting horrible back pain that feels like it’s in my pelvis. All of it felt in the lower back but feels like a mild version of the back to back labour pains I had with my son

This is day 4 and they still keep coming and going. Really, really painful and interrupt my thoughts.

My periods are always bang on 32 to 34 days. However, the last two cycles have been 40 days and this month, 24 days. Never had an usual cycle in my life before now. Not TTC but do track periods, always have. I had a UTI that lead to sepsis 5 years ago. But I recovered quickly. And don’t currently have any other UTI symptoms. Got some of those urine testing kits and all looks fine. When I had sepsis from the kidney infection, I didn’t actually get any pain in my kidneys or back etc

I am 27. Non smoker and don’t drink. I’ve had both my gallbladder and appendix removed. Not taking any medications and otherwise okay, but quite tired lately. Put it down to a busy life

Would you bother your GP with this or wait it out for a while? Can it be some weird Gynae viral thing?

The pain is so strange and quite intense. Mild back to back labour (if such a thing existed) is exactly how I’d describe it

I'd have definitely gone to the GP before 4 days if I had these symptoms. Definitely not wasting their time. I can't guess what the cause is, but I'd call 111 if I were you as it's the weekend and I wouldn't be waiting till Monday if I felt these symptoms

TudorKingOrTudorFling · 13/09/2025 20:39

Thank you. A friend says some people get ovulation pain but that doesn’t really last 4 days, ovulation is a quick process I thought

I get ovulation pain (and it really is agony) but it never lasts longer than 5-15mins for me, certainly not 4 days.

I don't want to worry you, hopefully it's nothing serious, but I'd call 111 this evening just in case

Edit to say - that's for me, I googled it and it can last a day or two for some women apparently. But still 4d is too long for that I'd guess

Thank you, I did think 4 days was too long!

I'd definitely go and see your GP about this. It could any number of causes but I don't think you should ignore unexplained pain.

Ormally · 13/09/2025 22:42

No, don't play chicken with this one. I had a version of this (just over a week ago). It was a kidney stone and I had to have surgery due to the finding of a hugely inflamed narrow tube. Similar symptoms were the flashing heat (and sweat) in the night but it not making major pain (then), and the period timings going to pot.
There are many other things it could be, but get it checked.

CottageGoblin · 13/09/2025 22:45

Yes, like pp, I was coming to say about kidney stones.

OP don’t sit on this. I had fluid retention in my kidney which if left could’ve caused irreparable damage.

I would be inclined to phone 111 but I would also go to a&e. If you don’t want to do that, at the very least please go to the GP - tomorrow

Consider an ovarian cyst that’s burst or is twisted

HiCandles · 13/09/2025 22:53

Could be ovarian cyst torsion- likely to need surgery. Or corpus luteum cyst- will resolve without treatment. Do you mean you're currently day 24 of cycle? Have you done a pregnancy test just to make sure?
You should definitely go to GP and let them make a proper assessment.

I had an experience identical to this and it was a ruptured ovarian cyst.

Can I ask how you found out it was a ruptured cyst as it’ll have already ruptured?

I would go
I always thought oh I just have ovulation pain and painful periods are normal
only to find out I had endometriosis really severely

I was sent for an ultrasound and they said they could see evidence of the ruptured cyst (fluid and a sac). This, plus symptoms led to the diagnosis.

lonelyasacloud2 · 13/09/2025 22:58

I get ovulation pain and it can be very uncomfortable for 3-4 days. But not to the extremes you’ve described, it’s always manageable and settled with paracetamol.
My first thought was ovarian cyst. Have you had a c section in the past as the scar tissue can result in more painful happenings in the pelvic area too.
Either way I would get it checked. I think any sudden, severe, unexplainable pain should always be looked at.
