A question for Christian Mumsnetters

Windowless1995 · 13/09/2025 20:16

I posted a little while ago seeking support and reassurance from Christians on here, but before I had a chance to read through the replies and respond, Mumsnet hid my post. I don't know why, because I wasn't being offensive and was only seeking support from a Christian perspective.
So I'll try again and maybe reword it to avoid whatever the issue was with my original post.

I am looking for faith based replies, not people telling me to get counselling.

I came across a group of people online who believe that white people don't have souls, can't go to heaven and that Jesus didn't come for us. They had very strong opinions and seemed very religious, and had a wider knowledge and understanding of the bible than I do, as someone who has just started to learn.
Because of their deep religious understanding, it made me question whether or not Jesus did come for me.

I was hoping for a balanced, faith based perspective from Christians who know the bible and Jesus' message. And what your faith tells you about the belief that Jesus came for some but not others.

I hope that isn't provocative, please if you reported my last thread, leave me alone to seek clarity and understanding. These aren't my views, but they shook me and have been weighing on me.

I was hoping for maybe some bible verses to start with, or something in the bible I can read that tells me that Jesus came for us all and that heaven is for everyone.

Maybe post here OP https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/philosophy_religion_spirituality

Nomorecoconutboosts · 13/09/2025 20:30

Surely John 3:16 clarifies it. Whoever/whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

It doesn’t say any exceptions after the “whosoever”

and Galatians 3:28 explains we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Ah, I forgot there was a religious section on Mumsnet, thank you!

I won't post right away as this is already my second post on this in a short time, but I will go there for future questions.

Perhaps if the group online is confusing you or seems to have different beliefs then maybe avoid it?

Yes John 3:16 is very reassuring

I will read Galatians, thank you!

I didn't seek this group of people out, I asked a question on a Christian post and got a load of replies from people unrelated to the OP. It wasn't a matter of me not believing what they believed, it was that they were Christians and had a deeper knowledge of the bible and they were telling me that Jesus, who I was trying to seek, was not for me. I'm looking for reassurance and insight.

I just wanted to come back and let you know that I read Galatians and it's a beautiful verse, just what I needed, thank you.

@Windowless1995 ahh glad it was helpful x

I recommend the videos by the Bible Project which break down all the books of the Bible. They give a really clear explanation of the overall "storyline" of the Bible and might answer some of your questions. The Revelation one might be especially helpful.

Tapsaffweather · 13/09/2025 20:53

Jesus came to save us all, John 3v16 is a great confirmation of that. The following verses are also a great comfort to me, salvation is based on our faith in Jesus - He is Lord of all. I will be praying that you’re reassured and comforted.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.””

1 Timothy 4:10 as well:

10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. (King James Version)

PurpleChrayn · 13/09/2025 21:56

I’m not a Christian but to me it seems obvious that a group claiming white people don’t have souls can at best be dodgy and at worst dangerous. Surely there’s no more to it than that.

LoserWinner · 13/09/2025 22:17

Romans 8: 37-39
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This.

Dismiss these people from your mind and chat to people at church. The internet is full of weirdos.

There's no evidence that anyone has a soul.

Nah, they weren't Christians, and they didn't have a 'deeper knowledge of the bible'. They were just common-or-garden racists.

If you want to learn about Christianity, there are many well written commentaries.

The Seven Storey Mountain, by Thomas Merton, is an autobiography of a man who started out as an atheist (or at least a man who had never considered that God might be relevant to his life) and ended up a monk whose life was dedicated to holiness.

Mere Christianity, by C.S. Lewis is another book you might like.

@Moonmelodies
There's no evidence that we don't either...

Idinnaenah · 14/09/2025 10:12

OP it’s all made up. So feel free to believe what you want to believe.

Windowless1995 · 17/09/2025 17:20

I just wanted to come back to the thread and thank everyone who offered me reassurance and reading recommendations. I'm feeling a lot better now and I appreciate everyone who took the time to reply with kindness:)

To the people who were less sympathetic. I was on the receiving end of racial abuse from people who claimed to be Christians and was specifically looking for a faith based perspective. I think a little consideration for other peoples feelings wouldn't go amiss when talking about sensitive subjects.

I won't say anything more on the subject after this, but after a short email exchange with Mumsnet regarding my deleted post, it seems that people who've been subjected to racial abuse aren't welcome to discuss their experiences here if their abuse makes other people uncomfortable. You might even be accused of "dog whistling" yourself...despite being the victim, not the perpetrator. So to the people who reported my post and to the admins, perhaps you might also consider a little compassion to people instead of seeking to silence and accuse them in future.
