What book series do you wish you could do over for the first time

Having almost finished Hallmarked Man (no spoilers please) I wish I’d not read the Strike series yet for the pleasure of reading it for the first time.

Same for Throne of Glass. It was by far the most incredible experience and I know it won’t be the same again when I do reread it.

It's going back a bit now but I remember the absolute joy of reading the Anne of Green Gables books. Such a whirl of emotions!

Happy Potter because it was a journey with DS1 and I wish I could experience that journey again.

Famous Five, if only I could recapture the thrill of finding a book I hadn't already devoured in the library

EveryKneeShallBow · 13/09/2025 09:27

His Dark Materials
Discworld
Slough House novels
Dexter novels

The Cazalets
Mapp and Lucia
The Barsetshire Chronicles

I haven’t read Harry Potter to my shame! When I start the first film I get bored about 20 minutes in. I think that puts me off the books.

However DD insists that the books are far superior. I know this is almost always the case (the last Twilight book notwithstanding).

Salacious players club - Sara Cate.

Just wow.

The Belgariad. I read them as they were published. The agony and ecstasy of having to wait a year for the next installment.

That brings back loads of memories! I discovered the first three books of the Belgariad in my school library, wolfed them down (no pun intended) and then bought all five of them & nabbed each volume of the Malloreon as they came out.

No such thing as the internet back then so it was all checking editions of the Bookseller & the notices up in my favourite fantasy bookshop.

Ooohh this brings back memories! I loved them and was always given the latest book as a Christmas present.

I'd also add the following to my list:

Discworld
Slough House
Rivers of London
The Charlie Parker books

I'm struggling now to find anything I enjoy as much

Mikart · 13/09/2025 10:14

Tales of the City

Wiglio · 13/09/2025 10:15

The Poldark novels by Winston Graham.

I’ve only seen the TV series.

Is he as irritating in the books? I just wanted to shake him 😂
