Overnight night stays in hotels/guesthouses.

It's been a while since a took a home grown overnight stay. My summer was hard with work and family commitments. I would like to get away for a night this Saturday because it's the only chance I will have.

I searched on booking.com in so many towns and cities that I would like to visit. I am shocked with the cost of an overnight stay. Like approximately 150 pounds for a room in a guest house and that's just for a room. Hotels are so much more expensive. I would be willing to spend approx 80 or 90 pounds on a room in a guest house but that's about it.

Premiere inn or Travelodge are usually within the budget you are looking for

Premier Inn may be cheaper and they are often located next to pub/restaurants.

What city are you looking at? I just looked at exeter and even the top hotels are under £100 a night for 2

Travelodge is usually cheapest (on their own site), but Saturday nights are the dearest of the week everywhere (Sunday night is cheapest), and this weekend is one of the busiest for university drop offs so if you can try somewhere with no university you might be luckier.

Saturdays at short notice are £££.

The cheapest days are Sundays and Mondays. Lots of hotel brands do cheap Sunday/ Monday offers.

Unfortunately weekends are high demand anyway and short notice is always more expensive.

You’re always going to pay a premium for a Saturday and for a last-minute booking. Plus as PP said lots of universities start back this weekend so cities will be full of parents taking their kids.

Try bedandbreakfast nationwide - all the B&Bs are nice and you should find something in your price bracket.

One problem you might have is that some places want you to stay for two nights at weekends, it's very annoying when you only need accommodation for one night!

OP, have a look at Secret Escapes and Travelzoo. We’ve had some bargain stays from both. DH and I have literally just come home from a night on Studland Bay (DBB was £119). The rooms are dated, but clean and the food was fine.

Another way to find better value hotels is to stay on a Sunday or look at “Business” hotels at half term.
