Has anyone seen that MP Adam Dance is wanting to introduce this? He's asking that Dyslexia routinely be screened for in school

We were screened at college in 2009. But I don't think this is nationwide

Kind of crazy rhey dont screen for dyslexia already

Rendering · 10/09/2025 20:36

I think that's a good idea

FairFuming · 10/09/2025 20:37

That's. Fantastic idea and would help so many children

As long as the screening is accurate and doesnt count children out who actually do have dyslexia, need to check what screeners are being proposed.

I would like to see better screening and assessment for children who cant respond to phonics.

It's already screened for though, my kids were all screened at primary school. The initial screening is via the teachers normal monitoring, phonics screen etc., followed by a specific dyslexia screening if they show signs of difficulties. The real scandal is there's nothing further. It's the only disability/ND where there's no NHS pathway or non-private diagnosis option. We were just told, yes they've been screened and it indicates they probably have dyslexia, no that doesn't count as a diagnosis but we'll treat them as if they are now. That doesn't count for college, work etc. You have to pay privately if you want to know for sure.

I was screened at college. I was told that I'm dyslexic and not visually impaired. I argued that because it's screening (it was a computer based assessment) and not done by a person, for me it's not accurate

The person who did actually assess me, agreed with me
