A very niche kitchen roll question

Hold on to your hats. This is thrilling.

I need three inner tubes that are wider than your average kitchen roll or toilet roll. Anyone have any suggestions please?

Blue roll ?

Lucy5678 · 10/09/2025 14:34

How much wider? You can buy cardboard tunnels for guinea pigs that are like big loo roll innards, but might be too wide?

edit - or a poster packaging tube?

CatsorDogsrule · 10/09/2025 14:34

It's not quite the same, but maybe a kitchen foil/ cling film tube. (American ones tend to be longer too, but probably not accessible to you.)

Wider as in larger diameter or longer length?

SeaAndStars · 10/09/2025 14:41

Might your local florist have some wider rolls that their wrapping paper came on?

supersuppers · 10/09/2025 14:59

How wide are we talking? Ribbon comes on wider rolls but they’re short.
a Pringles can with the bottom cut off might work.
honestly we just need more info.

I buy a giant fat roll (like kitchen roll) that has a wider (and sturdier) tube. I think it's the kind that you hang on the wall in garages or workshops. I'm abroad so can't tell you where to get it, but maybe B&Q or other DIY type shop?

IdBeLionIfISaid · 10/09/2025 15:09

God you're all amazing

Wider in diameter. Probably about three inches? I'll check our a Pringle tube

I am nosy and need to know what this is for 😂

DH suggested trying your local carpet fitter - some carpet comes on a roll.

It's to use as a mold for rice krispie treats for a cake, I need to make towers....

Could you use a bottle? Or does it need a flat top.

stayathomer · 10/09/2025 17:16

Oh my god you’re AMAZING!!! Towers!!! Best of luck op!!! (From someone who bought the caterpillar cake for the last birthday and who’s love to be able to bake!!)

IdBeLionIfISaid · 10/09/2025 17:25

A bottle could work... I need something I can cut off because I won't be able to slide it out

I would use a pringles tube because it will be food safe.

a poster mailing tube would also work. You can also buy almost any size and shape of cardboard on amazon. I sometimes resort to this when I can’t find the shape I need for a project and I don’t want to co struct it manually. I don’t work in food though.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 10/09/2025 17:50

You can buy flat sheets to line baking tins. Some are more robust than others. If you got a stronger one you could roll it into a cylinder of any size you like and fasten the ends with paper clips. Or use a napkin ring/ scone cutter / old mug / whatever you have that's the right size to stop it unrolling. You could just unclip it when set.

OriginalUsername2 · 10/09/2025 17:53

Maybe the middle of a tall bottle of fizzy drink? Easily cut out with scissors and if you cut a slit down it you could make it a thinner tube with a bit of tape if needed.

Ooh, I saw a video of someone doing but they didn’t use any sort of mold. They mixed the rice crispies with melted marshmallows, then just shaped that mixture into towers/cylinders with their hands and put them in the fridge to set. Then covered them with icing.

Oh gosh really? I tried to find one but had no luck. That would be much easier!!!

The Beautician in the village has paper on a roll for her treatment bed. She keeps the inners and gives them away to whoever wants them. Worth asking locally?

tinofthetop · 10/09/2025 18:31

@IdBeLionIfISaid this lady does it free hand around a dowel , slightly different overall shape but you get the gist
