Anyone reacted to Marine Collagen?

Not sure what would cause this reaction. I didn’t think it was this at first, but I stopped for two days and took 2 tablets yesterday and my eyes are like this, this morning. I eat shellfish etc and I’ve taken bovine collagen before. I’m gutted because it’s helped my aches and pains even after 2 weeks.

When you say you "stopped for two days and took 2 tablets yesterday" do you mean you've been taking this brand/type of collagen for a period of time with no issues, missed two days and have this reaction after re-starting yesterday?

If so, it seems very unlikely something you've been taking with no issues is suddenly causing this...? I'm also surprised you'd get a skin rash in such specific areas but no other symptoms (like stomach ache or whatever) if it was something you ingested?

No I’ve only been taking it for a week, started getting blotchy under my eyes so stopped and it calmed down, took two last night and woke up like this.
i am not allergic to anything, eat quite clean and this is the only different item I’ve ingested.

I don’t agree with EnterFunnyNameHere. Sensitivity reactions can be due to a build up of histamine over time, and the OP could have undiagnosed histamine sensitivity. I do, and I can take marine collagen for a while but then develop stomach issues. Fish is high in histamine, as bacteria accumulates very quickly in fish. I can eat fish and occasionally seafood, but if I ate it every day for a week it would make me ill. The reaction can manifest in different ways, including a skin reaction.

So in answer OP, yes it could be…but it also might be something else! I would leave it a week then try again.

Ps if you’re taking it in pill form you could also be reacting to the filler/binder they usually use in pills/capsules, which may not be listed as an ingredient. You could try a different form eg liquid, or a different brand?

I think if you've only been taking it a week or so before symptoms first appeared, which then subsided when you stopped, that does suggest there's something in the pills that doesn't agree with you. I think if you'd been taking them months/years with no issues it would seem a bit more unlikely!

I assume you've not changed anything else - especially soap/cleansers/skincare etc you'd maybe apply topically around your face/eyes? Washing liquid etc that you clean your pillow cases with?
