Boo basket

I know some people hate them, but I’m going to ignore any responses about how much you hate them

For those of you that do boo baskets, what do you include and when do you give them?

I bring out the same old stuff every year, but now dd is old enough to know what’s happening a bit more, and since she doesn’t get any sweets at Halloween, I thought it might be nice to just present the stuff she already gets (a Halloween cup, a book, maybe her new costume etc) in a nicer way, and I discovered boo baskets.

Ok I will admit (despite the haters) that we do give something that could be called a boo basket, although I hadn’t heard that term before.

It’s just an orange box (cardboard box painted orange at some point in the dim and distant past).

It contains their Halloween costume, a couple of themed books (last year it was I think the paw patrol doing Halloween? And Funny Bones), and a little plastic pumpkin with a handle that they can use to go trick or treating.

So it’s stuff that we would give them or get out of a cupboard at that time anyway, it’s just presented in a box which seems to make it much more exciting.

Thanks, yeah it’s just stuff I’d be giving anyway, but just presenting it a bit nicer so it’s more fun for her.

maybe she can help me decorate a cardboard box closer to October

I would use a container or basket that you already own, or if you do trick or treating buy something that could be used as their sweet basket then re-use every year.

Then just nice Halloween-themed things that aren’t plastic or landfill tat. A nice spooky-themed book, some Halloween colouring sheets printed out with new pencils, maybe a bath bomb, hot chocolates, socks, maybe some Halloween pyjamas or top from Vinted.

Are you sure?

We said trick or treat with our swedes and Penny for the guy with our Guy Fawkes

Yep. Nobody ever did a Guy, so we just conflated the two, I think. I used to end up with duffel coat pockets full of coppers, which I’d spend on penny sweets the next day,

Simpler times.
