Tube/DLR strike and ABBA Voyage - help

DD and I are going to ABBA Voyage this Thursday and I’ve only just found out that there are tube strikes this week plus the DLR will not be running on Thursday. I’m not very good with the buses in London so is a taxi our only option or can we get the overground to somewhere close?

@SuperTrooper1111 - I’ve just looked at the boat but google maps says it’s a 2.5 hour walk from North Greenwich Pier to the ABBA Arena …

North Greenwich pier is nowhere near the ABBA Arena.

You could get the riverboat to Canary Wharf and pick up the Elizabeth line from there to Stratford (it’s a straight road from the pier to Crossrail Place), if you wanted to avoid buses but it’s a faff.

My mistake! I thought it was next to the O2!

Just get an uber

Apologies! I honestly thought it was next to the O2! 😳 Looking where it actually is, I'd look into rebooking if you can transfer the dates. It will be a massive faff to get to with the strike on whichever way you go.

DontGoChasinWaterfalls · 08/09/2025 17:23

We had no DLR on the day we went. Got a rail replacement bus from Stratford. It was me and DD7. Was very simple.

@SuperTrooper1111 - I can’t re-schedule. I’ve pre-booked the train and hotel which are non-refundable. DD has booked the day off work.

Strike when I went! We booked Uber both ways. It’s great you’ll have fun!

FanSpamTastic · 08/09/2025 17:45

If you are able to get to Stratford via the options already mentioned then it’s actually a fairly easy walk from Westfields to the ABBA Arena. You can do a lot of the walk through the Olympic park. It’s very well sign posted. There is a section where you walk along the road - but there is pavement. just start from the side of Westfields - so when you come out of the station cross over the bridge to westfields then head from there.

LimeBasilandManderin · 08/09/2025 17:52

Leave as earlier as possible too!

@mondaytosunday - was it difficult to book an Uber?

@LimeBasilandManderin - our train is due in to Waterloo at 2.30 so hopefully plenty of time to get there.

Waterloo? WATERLOO? And Abba? Come on!! I can't believe no one has commented! 😁
Sorry OP - I've been to Abba Voyage twice and the second time the DLR wasn't running. Wasn't a problem though. We just got the overground train to Stratford/Westfield and a cab to the venue, it wasnt too expensive and its too far and too busy next to traffic to walk.
The show is indescribably brilliant and amazing and emotional, you'll have a fabulous time x

🎶Waterloo - couldn't escape if I wanted to!🎶

Are younsigned up, just join then you can book in advance, are you staying in a hotel.

Thissickbeat · 08/09/2025 18:52

Boat from the London Eye pier.

Boat from the London Eye pier.

To where?

Inastatus · 08/09/2025 19:15

@MissMoneyFairy - yes, I have the App all set up. I’m just worried about pre-booking in case our train is delayed. Can I change pick up time if that happens? I haven’t booked in advance before. We are staying at the Snoozebox.

The most straightforward way to get there, assuming you don’t have heavy bags, is to walk from Waterloo to Tottenham Court Road and get the Liz line from there to Stratford, and then walk to the venue from there. This could be your back-up plan if you can’t get a bus, Uber, etc.

Are the tubes running, is the elizabeth line affected by the strike

Inastatus · 08/09/2025 20:22

@HundredMilesAnHour - thanks, it’s good to have a few different options.

@MissMoneyFairy - none of the tubes or the DLR are running but the Elizabeth line is. I just need to check if the trains will be stopping at Stratford on the day.

OP posts:
HundredMilesAnHour · 09/09/2025 12:26

Keep an eye on ‘progress’ this week @Inastatus. A colleague said some of the Northern line was running today (so a big improvement from yesterday). Definitely no District / Hammersmith & City still today though (I live close to a tube station).

Ginmonkeyagain · 09/09/2025 13:32

If you are planning to use Uber remember prices tend to surge at times of high demand - for example during strikes.

Inastatus · 09/09/2025 14:42

@HundredMilesAnHour - thanks, I’ll make sure I keep checking.

@Ginmonkeyagain - yes, thanks, I know they’ll hike up the prices.
