Where to go in Europe in October/November?

This is recommendations for myself. I'm just going to go on my own. I have enough annual leave left even after booking my Christmas leave.

Does anyone have recommendations of where "is nice and warm" in October and November? I'd ideally prefer a city.

You are more likely to be lucky with the weather if you go in Ocfober rather than November. But it won't be guaranteed.

How about Nice and the surrounding towns?

Thanks. I've been to Paris before. Not really seen the other sites in France.

I'm also feeling super frustrated with life in the UK and want to move to Europe. Obviously due to Brexit I can visit often but never stay and work.

For warm then probably Barcelona. Another nice European city is Hamburg but it won't tick off your warm criteria.

Seville?

mynameiscalypso · 07/09/2025 11:32

I’d go to Sicily personally although it’s not a city break per se.

bestcatlife · 07/09/2025 11:32

I like Bilbao and it should still be nice and warm in oct/nov. Could be raining though.
I feel equally frustrated, wish I could just up and move.

A city in southern Spain should meet your brief, though obviously great weather isn't guaranteed. It's where I'm heading to myself.
If you want city and beach probably Malaga but I'd go for Seville, Granada or Cordoba all beautiful.

I was in Nice one October recently. The weather was nice except for 1 wet day. Public transport was good including a tramline. Opposite the main train station is an office that sells a 3 day tram, bus and rail pass. I think it was around €30.
We went by train one day to Monico ( pass covered this) and got a hop on hop off bus their. We went to Cannes as well. We took the train to Ese and went to the perfume factory there as well. With the pass you just tapped on and off when you got the train, tram or bus. It was good value and it saved queuing for tickets.
Nice tram also runs from outside the airport.

Barcelona is also nice in Oct. Some nice shops. One street of very expensive shops. El corte Englise is a good department store with things both cheaper and more expensive. The open top tour bus well worth doing. 2 different lines do both as you see and find out about the whole city.

Madeira. It's still quite warm in October and November and there's plenty to explore in Funchal if you prefer to stay in the city.

Rome was lovely in October last year. Plenty of interesting things to do, nice people, nice food.

Thank you. My parents want to see Rome. I too want to see it. I want to see Milan as well. I've had something in my head about Gelato.

I went to Budapest this summer and I loved it there. So much nicer than London. I wish I could just up end and move to the EU.

The reason Barcelona scares me is I've heard that mugging is rife. I saw a video on Instagram once. And I once met an expat based in Madrid who said that she once did a trip to Barcelona and just watched someone get mugged in a busy street in broad daylight.

I went to Barcelona at the end of September last year and was also worried about pickpockets etc. I was meeting friends there but travelling on my own.

It was absolutely fine but I probably took more precautions that I usually would in a big city.

Chose flight times so I would arrive and depart in daytime.

Researched the place to catch the bus from the airport into the city so that I didn't have to dither about looking for the stop. I also bought my ticket in advance and printed a paper copy so I didn't have to take out my phone.

Checked the walking route from the bus to
my hotel and chose the slightly longer but busier route to avoid quiet back streets and alleys.

Used one of those Uniqlo banana bags for valuables and wore it across my torso.

Packed carefully so I only had one small carry on bag to look after.

I also bought a phone lanyard for when I was out and about but that might be a bit OTT.

Seville?

I always come on here to say Seville and its a great city BUT I recently went to Cadiz and loved it.
You can get there by train from Seville quite easily

Fugazi · 07/09/2025 17:13

I want to work remotely for a bit as well to maximise my time abroad.

Marrakech? Athens? Granada or Seville? Rome or Naples? So many wonderful options. Late Nov last year I was in southern France inland from Nice. Not that warm but lovely and sunny. Enjoy!

Marilla1966 · 07/09/2025 17:20

We were in Rome during October half term, a few years ago. It was glorious and we were in t-shirts / thin sweaters. Mind you, the Italians were in puffa jackets and woolly hats. X
