French soap bought during Covid

PersephoneParlormaid · 07/09/2025 07:10

During Covid there was a thread on here about bar soap, It was possibly when liquid soap was scarce. Anyhow, I ordered a box of citrus smelling soaps and they were lovely, there was a mixture of normal size bars and smaller ones. Does anyone know which company it might have been? Thanks.

Oh OP, I want to buy it all!!

MarxistMags · 07/09/2025 16:52

Go to TK Maxx. They have lovely soaps in there at all prices.

ApoodlecalledPenny · 07/09/2025 17:28

TK Maxx do have nice soaps. This stuff looks good took if you like buying in bulk. (Buy 10 pay for 8 offer at the moment). I think the prices look similar to TK Maxx too.

Fanny is a fairly common girls name in France, or was anyway. There is a well-known actress called Fanny Ardent.

I love French soaps and that looks a great website. I might have to make a purchase!

I actually bought the fanny soap for a bit of light relief during covid. The smell was lovely and the bar lasted ages. This has reminded me to get some more

Savon de Marseille. I have ordered some on Ebay, it's about £3 a bar and it's amazing.

After being gifted some I started buying it on Amazon. The lavender. Love the creaminess.

Trampoline · 08/09/2025 11:25

Are any of these soaps moisturising? I love the fragrances of French soaps but I find that they are so drying and I end up with really awful dry hands!

shellyleppard · 08/09/2025 11:27

@PersephoneParlormaid the fanny soap name always makes me chuckle.... I have the lavender one it smells lush

Where it says edited. Click on that an it shows what it was before. People don't realise it usually end up making a fool of themselves haha.

Is this on the app as it doesn't work on the website?

It absolutely does.

Big fan of Marseille soap here too. I've ended up switching to it for pretty much everything, dishes, laundry, even the odd bit of cleaning round the house. It is on the pricey side, and I've seen cheaper ones on ebay and etsy, but I'm never too sure how genuine they are. They're often advertised as proper olive oil or goats milk soaps, but at those prices I can't help feeling a bit suspicious.

You clean everything with a bar of Marseille soap? Do you grate it?

In the past I've cut the bar into smaller chunks (have to be careful as it can crumble) and dissolved them in water to use for the floor or to pop in the washing machine. If there's a stain I just rub the whole bar on it by hand and it works like magic. Lately I’ve started grating it and mixing with boiling water to make a concentrated detergent, which has been really handy.

That's interesting. My granny had a long bar of green soup that had many uses I seem to recall

There are only 3 places that make proper savon de Marseille, Marius Fabre, La Compagnie du savon de Marseille, and Le Sérail. Anything else is a knock-off.

Hummingbirdtree · 08/09/2025 22:36

I can feel more soap buying coming on…

PersephoneParlormaid · 09/09/2025 07:11

My soap is on its way, I just had to have the fanny soap!
