How to transfer a mobile number to a (now adult) child.

I have a mobile contract with us for DS (19). I would like him to take it over, or transfer to another mobile provider in his name. Has anyone had success with this? He is obviously keen to keep his number. Does a PAC code have any link to the account owner (ie is it linked to my name or DoB)?
I have asked the company call centre who said they could only add him as an approved contact. However I’m thinking it must be a common request, for a child to take over their account on adulthood. (I’m keen to pass over a much life admin as possible!).

How long left? I would just cancel the contract, get him to take out his own contract and then use the PAC code to transfer the number - it’s linked to the number rather than a person if that makes sense!

Just tried to do this with my young person! He has had the bills and emails about the contract for a couple of years. We went into the EE store to change over the contract details- they are very used to doing it.

That’s good to know. I wasn’t sure if the PAC was linked to me. Have you experience of doing this?

Unfortunately our mobile company is online/call centre only. Maybe I’ll phone back and hope I get a different person- they seemed completely befuddled by the request and said no mobile company would do the change!

My son has a pay as you go with Giffgaff and I just set up a standing order to pay it from my bank account so it was like having a monthly contract. At some point while he was at uni I said it was time it came out of his bank account so we changed the details. It was very easy - we just did it online!

But if it's more difficult than that then I agree the easiest thing is to decide who you want to go with and get a PAC and do the transfer. The PAC is for the number, not for the person. He might need to go with someone like Giffgaff because a credit check will be done for a monthly contract and I don't know if a 19 year old would pass it if they are a student and don't have their own income.

PAC is linked to the phone number only. Just get him to get his own account and PAC the number over. Dead easy.
