How to choose a tablet

I'm wondering whether learning to use a tablet would make it easier for me to transition from iPhone to Android phone.

I've had iPhones for aaages. Love most things about them - except their size (getting too big), their cameras and iTunes. I keep thinking my next phone will be an Android - but then can't face the relearning. Dh and our dc have Androids, and I can't made head or tail of them.

Small iPhone plus poor eyesight is not the best combination, so I would like a tablet (especially for Mumsnetting, natch). Android tablets are much cheaper than iPads, and I'm wondering whether learning to use a tablet would make it easier for me to transition to an Android phone.

But being an iPhone user I haven't got a clue about 'The Others'. How do I choose? What do I look for? Are tablets and phones similar enough for my idea to be workable?

Android phones and tablets are similar and you can easily set up a second device with all the apps and settings you have on another device. A tablet is certainly easier to read than a phone and you can look at the desktop version of websites instead of the mobile version. Personally, I would not enjoy having Apple and Android devices at the same time as swapping between the two systems might be confusing.

Avoid Amazon Fire devices if you want a full version of Android and access to the Google Play store. (Tip: you probably do want these things).

Samsung have a range of tablets at different prices. I'm typing this on my old Tab A which was inexpensive. I've filled up the storage now. I also have the much higher spec Google Pixel tablet which is fab. A more expensive tablet/phone will have better quality components like speakers and microphone as well as being faster and having more storage space. You can usually find out online which version of Android a device ships with and how many years it will receive updates for. Cheaper devices from less well-known manufacturers tend to have older versions of Android.

Google Pixel tablet to go with a Google Pixel phone. Google hardware and Google software. So much better than Samsung phone and Google software for example. I made the switch from iPhone and it was easy
