I really need help and dont really have anyone to ask in person. How do you do make up? Do you just keep buying random shades of stuff and hoping for the best?

Im 34 years old and never in my life done make up. At a few events where i have worn it, it has been applied by an artist hired. I have an event in December where this wont be possible and i dont know where to start in regards to learning. Ive seen 100s videos on tiktok etc and just get overwhelmed and turn them off. And im rather embarrassed to go into a store and ask for help in person 😬

Speak to the No7 assistant in Boots. They have a gadget which tells them which colours suit you best.

You need to either look for a local make-up artist who has a portfolio whose looks you like.

Or you go to a department store and find an approachable member of staff to help you.go when quiet - not Saturday lunch hell. You can book sessions but I've found them quiet enough to do it there and then.

Or you approach a friend/colleague Whose look you like and ask for help.

I can't do make-up. I have a few posh do's a year to attend. The best person I found was a person who represents the Tropics range - she gives me make-up lessons and handy tips.

I would personally say not to go to a department store as they will try to sell you an absolute full face of everything, and if you never wear makeup it's going to feel really overblown to jump from bare faced to full on slap.

I learned everything I needed from watching videos on YouTube in all honesty, and I didn't start wearing makeup til I was in my 40s.

I find Wayne Goss very good at advising on minimalist looks and he seems to be honest about products ie he'll slate them if they're crap, not just gush because he's been sent a freebie.
