Miniature apples

I assume these are some variety of crab apple, judging by their size. Do they have any culinary use or are they more ornamental than edible? Ironically, this is one of two of these trees growing near our flats and I've only noticed them for the first time this year, having been here 20-plus years! I love the pink colour.

I've made crab-apple jelly in the past. Best eaten with cold meat, as it's quite sharp. Mine came out a lovely pink too. Just follow a standard jelly recipe.

There's more fruit than usual everywhere this year, I've seen trees that haven't even had blossom on in the time I've known them covered in fruit.
I second crabapple jelly! Very good on scones.

There are a lot arpund this year. Some are quite sweet too, if a little dry, so they may not make a very tart jelly

Have a taste, see what you think

Thanks all. It's been a good season for blackberries and sloes too but I think the latter need to be on the trees for longer until they're usable.
