Dd (yr4) went back to school on Tuesday. Last night I thought it was odd I heard her snoring !
She was awake at 5 am and said she had a sore throat so I gave her Calpol , no fever, was coughing and sniffing a lot went straight back to sleep then she woke at 7 am with a bad headache and one ear is hurting as well 😭

She has been well all summer and we haven’t even managed the first week back without her getting unwell !!

does anyone use elderberry syrup or similar? I think I need something to boost her immunity ?

Shes got "FreshersFlu" i.e. picked up someone's else's germs as they mix again after summer.

I know there's being a lot of scaremongering about not missing this week, but if she's ill, she's ill. Will she be learn effectively today? Or will she just be a spreader?

I doubt she would take anything in today she’s so preoccupied and upset about her ear hurting and her nose is just completely blocked , pretty sure when the calpol
wears off she will need more for her throat too 😭

Ex teacher

it’s really common for students (and teachers!) to get ill quite soon as they pick up germs.

best advice I can give is take multivitamins. I found echinacea helped a bit.

horrible isn’t it I hope he’s better soon ! I’m hoping as it’s Friday the weekend will be enough for dd to get over this. I wondered about Covid too.

We’ve been back for a few weeks and we’ve all got a horrible cold. They’ve gone in today but we’ll hunker down this weekend. If they were really snotty and sore I’d be keeping them home.

DD took a lot of Sambcol throughout primary, she didn’t get as many bugs as other kids but it coyod have just been luck 😃

My son has type one diabetes so his immune system is rubbish, he was always catching everything. Started him on muti vitamins- rarely gets poorly now. touch wood

Fresher’s flu lasts most of the school year now unfortunately. The ethos to attend whilst unwell doesn’t help, plus so much bloody covid is added into the pot now, making many more susceptible to other infections.
