I burnt my hand on melted silicone. Does it need medical treatment?

First time doing this.

you know kitchen silicone tongs? I accidentally left them near a flame and as I picked them up to move them, the melted silicone got stuck to my thumb.

I immediately put it under cold running water but man does it hurt. The skin has wrinkled like it’s been submerged for hours, is red, swollen and sore. I can’t stretch my thumb and unless it’s under cold water, is really sore.

i dont know if silicone is classed as a chemical burn or not and have no idea what to do in terms of whether I need medical assistance or if it’s just a normal first degree burn.

any help gratefully received. It doesn’t look that bad on pictures so hopefully nothing to worry about

The offending item if it helps in term of material.

I have added pictures of my hand too but waiting for review.

Have you taken any painkillers? Aspirin or ibuprofen etc.

why not call nhs direct for advice. I expect they will say cover it in cling film and take painkillers.

Run it under continuous cold water for as long as it takes for the pain to stop.
I dropped a whole pan of scalding soup on my hand once. Half an hour of running cold water and I had no pain or any sign I’d done it.

No, avoided pain killers as only did it half an hour ago. Didn’t want to clog 111 ideally (in the past they’ve always sent me to out of hours!) so hoping an off duty nurse takes pity on me on MN!

Touch and go, but you’ll probably live.
